Gran Canaria Airport is a well-organized and modern airport with smooth connections to both European and inter-island flights. Positives: * Clear signage and easy navigation inside the terminals. * Good variety of shops, cafes, and duty-free options. * Efficient security checks with relatively short waiting times compared to larger airports. * Public transport (bus connections) to Las Palmas and the south of the island is reliable and affordable. Could be improved: * Sometimes crowded during peak holiday season, which can make check-in and boarding a bit stressful. * Limited quiet seating areas if you need to rest between flights. Overall, it's a pleasant airport with friendly staff and a good passenger experience, making travel to and from Gran Canaria smooth and enjoyable.
A clean airport and very efficient, as usual in Spain, security is only 5 minutes. A fairly big airport for an island. We were quite late because of a delayed transfer, and we still managed to get there before our flight and even go duty free shopping because of the airport's efficiency! The airport has excellent public transport. The staff at the bus stop are very helpful and guide tourists on what bus to go on. Cheap and fairly frequent transport.
Hello Noemi. We appreciate your comment and hope you'll recommend us to other customers. We hope to see you soon. Best regards!
Excellent and inexpensive vacation during the off-season. Plenty of beach volleyball courts. Warm sea, great oceanarium, delicious food almost everywhere, and inexpensive public transport. I like everything except the Asian fast food places.
Hello Viktor Onishchuk. We're delighted to see this and know that your experience was positive. The Aena team works to improve every day. We hope to see you again very soon. Thank you!
Good modern airport with all the latest facilities. Love the massive selection of shops here, especially Ele Hop (cow shop!) the Spanish version of a badget shop, that's super low price, almost a temu shop! (but better quality). It's a very user friendly airport and you are soon through.
Hello Jody Bunting. Thank you so much for your comment. At Aena, we value your opinion as it allows us to continue improving the service and experience we offer every day. We hope to see you again soon!
Gran Canaria Airport (LPA) is the primary international gateway to the island of Gran Canaria, the second most populous of the Canary Islands. Situated on the eastern coast, it serves as a major hub for tourism from across Europe, particularly the United Kingdom, Germany, and Scandinavia. The airport handles millions of passengers each year, connecting the island to over 100 destinations worldwide. It is also a base for inter-island flights within the Canary archipelago. The airport's peak hours are around 5 pm and 6 pm, when many European arrivals coincide with departing flights to mainland Spain.
Gran Canaria Airport is located in the municipality of Telde, about 18 kilometres south of the island's capital, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. It lies just off the GC-1 motorway, the main highway linking the north and south of the island. The drive to Las Palmas takes roughly 20 minutes in normal traffic, while the popular tourist resorts of Maspalomas and Playa del Inglés are about 30 minutes to the south.
Public transport is efficient: Global buses (line 60) run frequently between the airport and the Santa Catalina bus station in Las Palmas, with journey times around 30 minutes. Taxis are readily available at the arrivals taxi rank, with fixed fares to common destinations. Car hire is a popular option, with several rental agencies operating from the terminal. Parking at the airport includes both short-term and long-term car parks, though it's advisable to book in advance during peak season.
Gran Canaria Airport is designed to accommodate passengers with reduced mobility. Confirmed accessible amenities include a wheelchair-accessible car park, entrance, seating, and toilets throughout the terminal. There are also changing tables in the washrooms, making it family-friendly. Free Wi-Fi is available in all public areas, allowing travellers to stay connected before their flight. Baggage storage services are located in the arrivals hall, useful for those with layovers or early arrivals. Standard facilities include clean, well-maintained toilets. While the airport offers a range of shops and eateries (common to international airports), the specific amenities confirmed are those listed above. Note that during peak hours (5–6 pm), the terminal can become congested, so allow extra time for security and boarding.
Gran Canaria is one of the most geographically diverse islands in the Canary archipelago. Known as a “miniature continent,” it features a variety of landscapes: the vast golden sand dunes of Maspalomas, the rugged volcanic mountains of the interior, and dramatic cliffs along the western coast. The island enjoys a warm subtropical climate year-round, making it a popular winter sun destination for Europeans. Tourists flock here for beach holidays, but also for outdoor activities such as hiking in the Tamadaba Natural Park, windsurfing at Pozo Izquierdo, and whale-watching off the south coast. The capital, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, has a historic quarter (Vegueta) with colonial architecture and the Casa de Colón museum, linked to Christopher Columbus. The island’s economy relies heavily on tourism, but it also has a thriving port and agricultural sector, producing bananas, tomatoes, and local wines.
The airport is open daily, but certain services may have reduced hours outside of flight schedules. The busiest times are between 5 pm and 6 pm. For up-to-date flight information and general assistance, passengers can consult the official website: https://www.aena.es/es/gran-canaria.html. The airport’s telephone number is +34 913 21 10 00 (standard Spanish call rates may apply). When planning your journey, keep in mind that security queues can lengthen during peak periods. The airport code is LPA, and it is located at Carretera General del Sur, 35230 Telde, Las Palmas, Spain.
For a smooth experience, arrive at least two hours before a Schengen flight and three hours for non-Schengen destinations. Wheelchair assistance can be arranged via your airline or the airport’s special assistance service. Baggage storage is available daily, though hours may vary. Enjoy your visit to Gran Canaria—a destination that blends sun, sea, and mountain adventures with ease of access from this well-equipped airport.
