While A Coruna Airport may be small and modest, it's efficient and gets you quickly into the heart of the city without hassle. And that's the real reward--A Coruna itself. With its breathtaking coastal views, rich history, and welcoming atmosphere, the city more than makes up for the airport's simplicity. If you're looking for a destination where convenience meets charm, flying into A Coruna is definitely worth it.
Hello Haitham Ahmed, we're glad to hear your experience was positive. The Aena team works every day to offer the best service to passengers. Thank you very much!
A small compact airport which is okay however the bus you need to take to get there from the city centre (A4) is quite unreliable so make sure you have a decent transport app to be on top of your plans.

Hi guys we have spent a great week in Coruna and for the two visits to the airport we have to say that we found it a very easy airport to navigate and didn't have any problems.... And as you can see on the way back we had the place almost to our self
Hi BOB.T, thanks for your comment! What did you like most about your experience? You can share it with us through the contact section of the official Aena website (aena.es/es/contacto) or by calling 913 211 000. Best regards from the Aena team!
Extremely unprofessional and unprepared staff at check-in. They seem to be operating multiple airlines and have absolutely no idea what they're doing. My experience was with an IBERIA representative who could not speak a word of English and had no understanding of international travel procedures. I was flying from A Coruna to London via Madrid with a tight connection, and she refused to print my boarding pass for the second leg of my journey. As a result, I almost missed my connecting flight -- even though my bags were checked through to London. Very disappointing service and a complete lack of professionalism.
Hello Andrea Martinelli. We're sorry to hear about your experience with Aena. Please share your feedback with us using the contact number on the official Aena website (https://www.aena.es/en/contact.html). We'll work to improve in the future. Thank you!
A Coruña Airport occupies a coastal site 8 kilometres east of the city centre, serving the capital of Galicia with a single runway and a compact terminal that handles just over one million passengers annually. The airport sits on a narrow isthmus between the Atlantic and the Ría de A Coruña, which means wind and fog are routine considerations — walk across the tarmac on a November afternoon and you will feel the salt air mix with the smell of wet stone. Despite its modest size, the airport connects this corner of northwest Spain to Madrid, Barcelona, and a handful of seasonal European destinations. The terminal was rebuilt in the early 1990s and expanded since, but it still feels small compared to the concrete mazes of larger hubs. You walk through the entire building in under five minutes if you move quickly.
The airport is located in the civil parish of Rutis, within the municipality of Culleredo. From A Coruña city centre, the journey takes 15 to 20 minutes by car along the AC-14 motorway — roughly 12 kilometres of road that passes through the suburbs of Elviña and O Burgo. Taxis are plentiful outside the arrivals hall; a trip from the city centre costs around 20 euros depending on traffic. Ridesharing apps like Uber and Cabify operate in the city but the pickup point is the same as the taxi rank. For a cheaper option, the airport bus (line 405A) runs between the terminal and the city's main bus station at San Cristóbal, with stops at the train station and the central Praza de Pontevedra. The bus runs every 30 minutes on weekdays and hourly on weekends, taking about 25 minutes each way. A single ticket costs 1.50 euros. If you are driving, the airport has a single paid parking lot with 450 spaces — expect to pay about 12 euros for the first day. The car park is adjacent to the terminal, a two-minute walk.
Drivers approaching from the south should take the A-6 motorway to the AC-14 junction, then follow signs for the airport. The roads are well maintained but can be congested during weekday rush hours, particularly around the Sabón industrial area. If you are cycling, there is no dedicated cycle path to the terminal, and the road is not especially safe for bikes — it is better to take the bus. Pedestrians can reach the airport on foot from Rutis village (about a 20-minute walk), but the route lacks sidewalks in places.
The terminal has two floors: arrivals on the ground level, departures upstairs. The layout is straightforward — when you enter the building, check-in desks are directly ahead, with security screening to the right. Only one security checkpoint serves both domestic and EU Schengen flights — wait times rarely exceed 10 minutes because the airport processes fewer than 3,000 passengers per day on average. All confirmed facilities are present: a wheelchair-accessible entrance at both levels, accessible car park spaces near the terminal entrance, a wheelchair-accessible toilet on the ground floor near the baggage claim, and a changing table in the same restroom. Baggage storage is available in the arrivals hall, operated by a company called Equipaje Seguro — rates are 5 euros per bag for the first 24 hours.
The departures lounge is small but functional. There is a single café-bar that serves coffee, beer, and pre-packaged sandwiches. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the terminal. Toilets are clean and staff check them regularly. There is no duty-free shop for non-Schengen flights because most routes are domestic or Schengen. Passengers waiting for a delayed flight will find seating limited to about 120 chairs in the departure area — on busy mornings, it can feel cramped. The busiest times, according to airport data, are Monday at 4 pm, Tuesday at 5 pm, Wednesday at 9 am, and Thursday at 10 am. If you are flying at one of these times, allow an extra 15 minutes.
On arrival, baggage claim is on the ground floor with two carousels. The process is fast — luggage usually appears within 15 minutes of landing. Outside the arrivals hall, you will find a small shop selling newspapers, snacks, and basic travel items. There are no hotels on site, but several budget options are within a 5-minute drive.
Rutis is not a place tourists seek out — it is a quiet civil parish of about 5,000 people, known mostly for its proximity to the airport and the busy AC-14 corridor. The landscape here is flat and industrialised, with warehouses, car dealerships, and mechanics’ garages lining the road from the motorway exit to the terminal. But this unglamorous setting sits within one of Spain’s most historically and culturally rich regions. A Coruña, ten minutes away, offers a concentration of things that make Galicia distinctive: the oldest working Roman lighthouse in the world (Tower of Hercules, a UNESCO site since 2009), a glass-walled city promenade (the Paseo Marítimo) that stretches 13 kilometres along the coast, and a dense old town (Ciudad Vieja) where granite arcades shelter tapas bars serving octopus, empanadas, and Albariño wine.
The city’s history as a Roman port and a medieval trading hub has left layered architecture — Romanesque churches, Art Nouveau streetlights, and the modernist opera house, the Teatro Colón. The annual Fiestas de San Juan in June turn the city into a bonfire-lit festival of grilled sardines and midnight swims. For nature, the nearby Costa da Morte (Coast of Death) offers dramatic seaside cliffs and lighthouses, while the Rías Altas coastline provides quiet coves and beach towns like Sada and Pontedeume.
What makes Rutis worth knowing is its role as the gateway to all this. It is not a destination itself, but it is the point of entry for travellers heading to the city or onward into the interior of Galicia. The airport’s location means you can be at the Tower of Hercules within 15 minutes of leaving the terminal. If you have a layover of three hours or more, a taxi to the city centre is feasible — the round trip leaves enough time for a coffee and a walk along the promenade. Rutis itself has no notable monuments, but the surrounding area of Culleredo contains the medieval monastery of Santa María de Culleredo and several traditional Galician stone villages. The real value of understanding Rutis is understanding its convenience — it is a functional suburb whose entire purpose is to serve the airport, and it does that without pretension.
A Coruña Airport is open daily from 5:00 am to 11:00 pm. The website (aena.es) provides live flight information and a list of car rental companies. Terminal phone number: +34 913 21 10 00 (Aena general customer service). For lost luggage, contact your airline directly at the airport’s lost property office — open during flight hours. There are no ATMs inside the terminal, but you can usually find one at the café-bar. Credit cards are accepted at the parking payment machines and the café. If you are driving to the airport, be aware that the parking lot often fills up during the summer season and Easter week — book a space online through the Aena app to guarantee a spot. The airport is a smoke-free building; designated smoking areas are outside the terminal entrance. For passengers with reduced mobility, the airport provides assistance — request it through your airline when booking. One concrete piece of advice: if you need a meal, eat before coming to the airport; the café’s selection is limited and overpriced. Grab a bowl of caldo gallego or a pulpo a la gallega at a restaurant in the city centre before heading to the terminal — your wallet and your stomach will thank you.
