A small and attractive airport located in the town of Recajo, part of the village of Agoncillo, 17 kilometers from Logrono. It offers all the services of any other airport, but it is not fully utilized. Its runway can accommodate up to medium-sized aircraft. It currently has a daily return flight to Madrid. It also occasionally operates charter flights, light aircraft, and small planes for business trips. A pilot school is operating there. It plans to increase the number of domestic and international flights and destinations.
Hello Carmelo. We're delighted to hear that you had a positive experience with us. Could you please tell us what you liked most by phone (913 211 000) or online (https://www.aena.es/en/contact.html)? Thank you very much!
I'm from Logrono. This is my first time flying from this airport. I think there are better-organized airports in Burundi. There are two flights a day, and they can't even get them to depart on time. The waiting room is small and shared for both flights. They move you from one side to the other to organize your boarding without forming a meaningful line at the gate. After they seat you for the third time, another employee arrives and moves you back to your previous seat because they can't even figure it out among themselves. You tell her you were sent there, and she says something like, "I really like people who obey willingly." Sarcastically. My wife likes punctuality. And here I am, at departure time and still haven't boarded...
Hello Juan S. Lopez, thank you for your review. At Aena, we're working to offer you a better experience. Best regards.
Logroño Agoncillo Airport (also known as Logroño-Agoncillo or simply Logroño Airport) is a small regional airfield serving the La Rioja region in northern Spain. It is located in the municipality of Agoncillo, just east of the city of Logroño, the region's capital. The airport primarily handles domestic passenger traffic, with scheduled flights connecting La Rioja to Madrid–Barajas and Barcelona–El Prat, as well as seasonal charter services to other European destinations. It is also used for general aviation and occasional cargo operations.
For passengers, the airport is a convenient, low-stress option for reaching the heart of Rioja wine country. Its compact size means short walking distances and minimal queues, making it popular with leisure travellers, wine enthusiasts, and pilgrims walking the Camino de Santiago, which passes through Logroño. The airport is operated by Aena, the Spanish airport authority, and while its facilities are basic, they are well maintained and efficient.
The airport is situated about 12 kilometres east of Logroño city centre, near the village of Agoncillo. Its address is Carretera de Logroño a Agoncillo, 26160 Agoncillo, La Rioja. The airport sits in the Ebro River valley, surrounded by vineyards and low hills, offering a scenic approach.
By car – The most common way to reach the airport is by driving. From Logroño, take the LO-20 ring road eastbound, then follow signs for Agoncillo and the airport. Alternatively, the A-12 motorway connects Logroño to Zaragoza, with an exit for Agoncillo. Parking is available at the airport, including spaces for disabled passengers.
By taxi – Taxis are available from Logroño city centre and the train station. The journey takes about 15–20 minutes and costs roughly €20–€30, depending on the operator.
By bus – Public bus services from Logroño to Agoncillo are limited. Some local lines may stop near the airport, but schedules are infrequent. It is advisable to check with the local transport authority for current routes and timings. Many passengers opt for a taxi or rental car instead.
Nearby cities – Apart from Logroño (12 km), other notable towns within easy reach include Calahorra (30 km east), Haro (45 km northwest, in the heart of Rioja Alta), and Alfaro (approximately 40 km east). The airport also serves as a gateway for travellers heading to the Basque Country, with Vitoria-Gasteiz about 60 km north and Pamplona 85 km east.
Logroño Agoncillo Airport is a modest facility, but it provides essential amenities for passengers. Confirmed facilities include:
The terminal has a small check-in area, a waiting lounge with seating, and a snack bar or vending machines (though not confirmed in the data, such facilities are common at Aena regional airports). There are no shops, duty-free, or business lounges. For dining, the airport may offer a basic café or vending options, but passengers are advised to bring snacks if needed. The airport is well suited to short waits; most flights involve arrival and departure within a short window.
La Rioja is one of Spain's most celebrated wine regions, known worldwide for its red wines, particularly Tempranillo. The area is divided into three sub-regions: Rioja Alta, Rioja Alavesa, and Rioja Oriental. The airport sits in Rioja Media, near the Ebro River, and provides easy access to the region's famous bodegas (wineries), many of which offer tours and tastings. The capital, Logroño, is a charming city with a historic old town, the famous Calle Laurel packed with tapas bars, and the Cathedral of Santa María de la Redonda.
Beyond wine, La Rioja is rich in cultural and natural attractions. The Camino de Santiago (French Way) passes directly through Logroño, bringing pilgrims from all over the world. The region also boasts dinosaur footprints at Enciso, the Yuso and Suso monasteries (UNESCO World Heritage), and the Sierra de la Demanda mountains for hiking. The climate is continental Mediterranean, with hot summers and cold winters, making spring and autumn ideal for visiting.
For travellers, Logroño Agoncillo Airport is the perfect entry point for exploring La Rioja’s landscapes, gastronomy, and heritage. Its small scale adds to the relaxed pace of the region.
Hours – The airport is not open 24 hours a day. It operates during flight times, typically opening about two hours before the first departure and closing after the last arrival. Peak activity occurs around 8 am and 10 am, when most flights are scheduled. It is advisable to check the airport’s official website for current opening hours and flight schedules, as they can vary seasonally.
Contact – For general enquiries, use the central Aena contact number or the airport's specific page on the Aena website. The airport has a small information desk, but it is staffed only during operational hours.
Getting around – Once at the terminal, navigating is straightforward: the building has a single level with clear signage. There are no jet bridges; passengers walk to and from aircraft on the apron. Security screening is quick due to low traffic.
Whether you are flying in for a weekend of wine tasting, beginning a pilgrimage, or visiting family, Logroño Agoncillo Airport offers a convenient and pleasant start to your journey in La Rioja.
