Bournemouth Airport is clearly in transition, moving from being a small, local airport to a more substantial and modern infrastructure. For the time being its smallness is part of the appeal. The departure area was quieter than most larger airports, and the convenience of nearby parking made the whole experience far less stressful. The gates are close, and although it did get busier nearer our flight time, we still felt much less anxious and drained than we usually do at bigger airports. There is a certain "smaller charm" here, which we know will inevitably change as the airport expands. It reminds us a little of Bristol Airport 25 years ago--before it became busier and more exhausting to use. For now, we are happy as while it remains on the smaller side and less fractious. There is fresh water for you in the departure area. The baggage claim was hectic, but even so we had our bags within 15 minutes and were back in our car another 10 minutes later and were heading home. It's inevitable that as it grows, it will become more expensive, as they'll likely get greedier with parking and start charging more for drop-offs etc, along with the other tricks the big players like to pull. For now, though, it seems fine--at least until it gets bigger.

Whilst having a local airport is handy Bournemouth (or Hurn Airport as it is known as by locals - it's not that close to Bournemouth) the facility is out to make money - parking for the week PS150 - that is high given the airport has not invested in providing a regular bus service to Bournemouth centre - they only provide 2 busses a day - yes 2 ! And no tram or train link - given the airport has been in operation 1941 and offering package holidays since 1958 they have had time to sort that out. PS150 a week for parking is outrageous given limited options. Facilities at the airport were OK but not VFM. The only saving grace being that there is good choice of flights and really helpful and friendly staff - but the lack of connectivity to the distant Bournemouth centre is unforgivable and does not chine with offering environmentally friendly travel.

We drove past the airport and noticed just how close the planes were to the road with great views So we decided to call Into the little Museum next to the airport omg we were blown away by the amount of aircraft ok many very old but the time we spent was amazing staff were friendly knowledgeable and they told us the times of the flights coming in and out of the airport With viewing platforms it was splendid kids dream as they can see the flight taking off and landing Also anyone can sit in the many cockpits of the planes in the museum A great day we had and spend a few hours there also there were fire engines you also could sit in Highly recommend a visit Toilets cafe all onsite

Quite pleasant and efficient, even though it (a) always seems to have building work going on, and (b) feels like an incredibly transactional environment. Still, the traffic flows on the way there are a bit better than they used to be, and pre-security Deparures coffee is drinkable.
