Busiest on Mondays around 8 pm — usually as busy as it gets.
Rize-Artvin Airport is one of those rare airports that gets everything right. Within just 10 minutes of landing I was already outside with my hand luggage in a taxi ready to go. The design is simple compact and efficient with no unnecessary steps or confusion. Everything is clearly laid out which makes the experience smooth and stress free. The building is very clean well maintained and located directly next to the highway which makes further travel easy. It may not be huge but it does exactly what a good airport should do without wasting your time. Definitely in my top three airports.
The airport is small and new, but it has one tea shop with a tea museum, a small market, two car rental shops, and a coffee bar. There is an ATM in the arrival area, but no pharmacy. The airport can be reached in 90 minutes from the centre of Trabzon. Overall, the airport is good
Perfect design for a Domestic airport. Also It's on the Black sea so you get amazing view of Black sea while landing or take-off.also Mountains on the other side.Getting here is also easy but only cars and busses was available when I visited. There are so many small shops in the terminal building.
Very nice new airport
Rize-Artvin Airport (RZV) is a relatively new airport serving the neighbouring provinces of Rize and Artvin on Turkey’s northeastern Black Sea coast. Opened in the 2020s, the airport was built largely on reclaimed land along the coast, an engineering feat that reflects the region’s rugged terrain. It primarily handles domestic flights, with regular services linking the area to Istanbul and Ankara, as well as seasonal routes during the summer tourism peak. The airport is a vital transport hub for both residents and visitors, providing a modern alternative to the winding coastal roads that historically connected this part of Turkey to the rest of the country.
The airport is situated in the Pazar district of Rize Province, approximately 34 kilometres (21 miles) east of Rize city centre and about 70 kilometres (43 miles) west of Artvin city centre. Its coastal location makes it easily accessible via the D010 highway, which runs along the Black Sea shore.
By Car: The airport has its own car park with designated spaces for disabled passengers. From Rize city centre, the drive takes about 35–40 minutes; from Artvin, it is roughly an hour. Taxis and ride-hailing services are available at the terminal.
By Bus: Municipal and private buses connect the airport to Rize and Artvin city centres, though services may be less frequent than in larger cities. Many travellers prefer arranging airport transfers or using taxis for convenience.
By Rental Car: Several international and local car rental agencies have desks in the arrivals hall, allowing passengers to pick up a vehicle directly upon landing.
As a compact regional airport, Rize-Artvin offers essential amenities focused on accessibility and comfort. The following facilities are confirmed:
The airport does not have extensive shopping or dining options – typical for an airport of its size. Passengers are advised to eat before arriving or bring snacks. The peak hours are around 7 pm and 8 pm, when flights are most likely scheduled, so the terminal can become busier during these times.
The Black Sea region of Turkey, encompassing Rize and Artvin, is famous for its lush, mountainous landscape, abundant rainfall, and extensive tea plantations. Rize is often called the “tea capital” of Turkey, and the hillsides are covered in terraced tea gardens. The region is also a major producer of hazelnuts, honey, and fresh produce.
Tourists are drawn to the dramatic scenery: the Kaçkar Mountains offer some of Turkey’s best trekking and alpine hiking, while plateaus such as Ayder and Pokut provide breathtaking views. The high-altitude lake of Uzungöl, just over the border in Trabzon Province, is a popular day-trip destination. Artvin, less visited, boasts the ancient Savsat Castle and the stunning Karçal Mountains.
Culturally, the region has a distinct identity, with local music, dance, and cuisine heavily influenced by the Black Sea and the Caucasus. Traditional dishes include hamsi (anchovies), muhlama (a cheesy cornmeal dish), and karalahana sarması (cabbage rolls).
For most visitors, Rize-Artvin Airport is the most convenient entry point, especially for those heading to the eastern parts of the region. The airport’s modern facilities make travel much smoother than the long drives from Trabzon Airport further west.
Operating Hours: The airport is not open 24 hours a day – its schedule aligns with flight operations. Passengers should check with their airline for exact opening times on their travel date.
