Calbayog Airport (also known as Calbayog City Airport) is a domestic airport serving the city of Calbayog in the province of Samar, Philippines. It is one of the key air gateways to the island of Samar, which is part of the Eastern Visayas region. The airport primarily handles flights to and from Manila and Cebu, operated by Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific. Given its location, the airport serves as a vital link for residents, business travellers, and tourists exploring Samar's natural attractions. While smaller in scale compared to major Philippine hubs, it provides a convenient and increasingly used alternative to the Tacloban Airport for those heading to northern Samar.

Location & Access

Calbayog Airport is situated approximately 5 kilometres east of Calbayog city centre, in Barangay Cagmanaba. The airport sits along the coastal plains of western Samar, near the Samar Sea. Access to the airport is via the Maharlika Highway (also known as the Pan-Philippine Highway), which runs the length of Samar island. From the city centre, travel time by car or tricycle is about 15–20 minutes. Tricycles (motorised rickshaws) are the most common mode of transport for short distances; a typical fare from downtown to the airport ranges from PHP 100–150. Jeepneys and vans also ply the route, though schedules are less frequent. For travellers arriving from other parts of Samar, the airport is about 3–4 hours by road from Tacloban City (the regional capital) and roughly 4–5 hours from Catarman. Renting a private van from Calbayog city or arranging a hotel transfer are the most comfortable options.

Calbayog Airport is a modest facility, but it offers essential amenities for passenger comfort. The airport building is compact, with a check-in area, waiting lounge, and boarding gates. Confirmed facilities include:

The port area offers boat trips to the nearby islands of Capul and Dalupiri, where Spanish-era watchtowers and unspoiled beaches await. Many travellers use Calbayog as a base for exploring the Samar Island's east coast, famous for the San Juanico Bridge (connecting Samar and Leyte) and the Sohoton Caves National Park in Basey. The local cuisine features seafood, particularly dried fish and kinilaw (Filipino ceviche), often paired with tubâ (coconut toddy).

• Hours of Operation: The airport terminal is open from early morning (around 5:00 AM) until the last departure, typically around 10:00 PM. Peak passenger traffic occurs in the evening, between 9:00 PM and 10:00 PM, when the final flights of the day depart. The airport may close overnight after the last flight, so overnight stays inside are not possible.
