  Review: Osh International Airport (OSS), Kyrgyzstan I recently had the opportunity to travel through Osh International Airport, the second-largest and one of the busiest airports in Kyrgyzstan, located in the southern city of Osh. The airport plays a vital role in connecting southern Kyrgyzstan with the rest of the country and several international destinations. My experience was mixed, with several positives, but also areas that could use improvement. Positives: 1. Convenient Location The airport is located just a few kilometers from the city center of Osh, making it extremely easy and affordable to reach. A short taxi or marshrutka (minibus) ride will get you there quickly. For those staying in Osh, this proximity is a major plus, especially compared to airports located far from city centers. 2. Efficient Domestic Flights For domestic flights, especially those to and from Bishkek (Manas International Airport), the service is relatively efficient and affordable. Flights are frequent and punctual, making Osh a good option for internal travel in Kyrgyzstan. 3. Friendly Staff One of the standout experiences at Osh Airport is the friendly and hospitable staff. Despite the limited English spoken by some, airport employees go out of their way to be helpful, especially with international passengers who might need guidance. Immigration and security personnel were respectful and courteous, which is not always the case in post-Soviet airports. 4. Cultural Atmosphere The airport gives off a local and cultural vibe. From the local snacks available at small kiosks to Kyrgyz music sometimes playing in the background, there's a sense of identity here that's refreshing. Travelers who are interested in a more authentic, non-Westernized experience will enjoy this cultural touch. Areas for Improvement: 1. Outdated Infrastructure Osh International Airport still has a Soviet-era design and lacks many of the modern features you'd expect in an international airport. The building feels old and a bit run-down, with narrow hallways, low ceilings, and limited ventilation. Modernization efforts are needed, especially in the arrival and departure lounges, which can get overcrowded quickly. 2. Small and Crowded Terminal During peak hours, the terminal becomes quite congested, especially in the check-in and security areas. There's very little room to sit, and you may find yourself standing for long periods. The waiting area past security is also very limited in size, with not enough seating for all passengers during busy times. 3. Limited Facilities There are only a few food and shopping options, and they are mostly basic kiosks offering snacks, tea, and water. Don't expect to find international brands or duty-free stores like you might at larger airports. Wi-Fi is available but can be slow or unreliable, and there are few charging stations for phones or laptops. 4. Minimal English Signage While Russian and Kyrgyz are well-represented, English signage is limited, which can be confusing for international travelers. Announcements are also not always made in English, so it's important to stay alert and ask staff for help if you're unsure about your gate or boarding time. International Flights Osh Airport serves several international destinations, mostly within Central Asia, Russia, Turkey, and the Middle East. Airlines like Turkish Airlines, Ural Airlines, and FlyDubai operate here. However, be prepared for longer wait times during immigration for international flights, and sometimes manual processing of documents. Baggage & Customs Baggage claim is relatively quick compared to larger airports, and customs procedures are straightforward, though again, signage can be unclear. Be aware that luggage carts may be limited, so if you're traveling with a lot of baggage, prepare ahead. Final Thoughts Osh International Airport is functional, friendly, and locally flavored, but it definitely lacks the modern conveniences travelers might be used to.

  It was a good airport small but it is a good size for osh the elderly people dont know how to que up thier is only 1 gate for internal flights in the passport control the brother control officer just left when their was a que other then those small problems it was good overall.

  Straightforward when you arrive. Luggage came very fast. Toilets are a hole in the floor and not super clean. Bus 7 (signaled as 107 on Yandex maps) brings you to the city.

  We were unable to purchase a ticket online with Tezjet because the Mastercard was rejected. At the airport, an employee accompanied us from start to finish to purchase tickets with great kindness. Many thanks to this airport employee.
