Terrible information center. The girl told me there was a bus at 12h10from the airport to the city center, wait 1h30 and the bus never came. Itsquiet incredible there is no bus service between the airport and the cith, only 2 per day !!! Very bad airport service. Taxi fee for going in town, 15 mn ride : 20 euros !!!!
Arriving to Foggia airport makes possible to easily reach many breathtaking destinations: Vieste, Peschici, Monte Sant'Angelo, Lucera, Sant'Agata di Puglia and many many more. The airport works fastly and efficiently, and it's not very distant from the city center. Always happy to be welcomed in Puglia :)
Tons of work to do, but I wish they are in good mood
Foggia Gino Lisa Airport (IATA: FOG) is a regional airport serving the city of Foggia and the broader province of Foggia in the Apulia region of southern Italy. Named after the Italian aviator Gino Lisa, the airport primarily handles domestic flights to major Italian hubs, as well as general aviation and occasional charter services. It plays an important role in connecting the northern part of Apulia with the rest of the country, particularly for passengers travelling for business, agriculture-related purposes, and tourism. The airport is relatively compact, offering a straightforward and efficient experience for travellers.
Gino Lisa Airport is located approximately 3 kilometres (about 2 miles) south of Foggia's city centre, easily accessible by road. The address is Viale degli Aviatori, 71121 Foggia FG, Italy. The airport lies within the Tavoliere delle Puglie, a vast plain known for fertile agricultural land. The nearest major city is Foggia itself, a provincial capital with a population of around 150,000. Rome is about 340 kilometres to the northwest, while Bari, the regional capital, is roughly 125 kilometres southeast. The Gargano Peninsula, a popular tourist destination, lies about 50 kilometres to the northeast.
By car, the airport is reachable via the A14 motorway (exit at Foggia) and then following signs for the airport. Taxis and ride-sharing services are available from Foggia city centre and the main train station. Public bus services operated by local companies connect the airport to the city centre, though frequency may be limited, especially outside peak hours. Parking is available on-site, with both short-term and long-term options. The car park is wheelchair-accessible.
Foggia Gino Lisa Airport provides essential amenities to ensure a comfortable experience for all passengers. The terminal is equipped with a wheelchair-accessible entrance, car park, and toilet facilities, making it easy for travellers with reduced mobility. There is a dedicated wheelchair-accessible toilet and a changing table in the restroom, which is helpful for families with young children. Baggage storage is available for those who need to store luggage temporarily.
The airport has standard toilet facilities throughout the terminal. While the airport does not have a wide range of shops or restaurants, there are vending machines for snacks and beverages. Given its compact size, passengers will find the airport easy to navigate. For any assistance, airport staff are available at the information desk during operating hours.
The Foggia area is deeply rooted in agriculture, often called the "granary of Italy" due to its extensive wheat production. The Tavoliere plain is also known for olive oil, tomatoes, and wine (especially the DOC wines of Cacc'e Mmitte di Lucera and Rosso di Cerignola). The nearby Gargano National Park, with its ancient forests, coastal cliffs, and the Tremiti Islands, attracts hikers, beachgoers, and nature lovers. The city of Foggia itself has a historic centre with Baroque architecture and the Cathedral of Santa Maria de Fovea. Other notable attractions include the Romanesque church of Santa Maria Maggiore in Monte Sant'Angelo and the Umbra Forest. The region is also a gateway to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Castel del Monte, built by Emperor Frederick II.
The airport is not open all days; its schedule typically aligns with flight arrivals and departures. Peak hours are around 2 pm and 3 pm, suggesting that flights are concentrated in the early afternoon. Travellers should confirm flight times with their airline and arrive at least one hour before departure for domestic flights. The website for the airport is http://www.aeroportidipuglia.it/, which provides information on flights, services, and transport. For inquiries, the contact phone number is +39 080 580 0200 (this number is for the regional airport authority, which manages multiple airports in Apulia).
Given the limited operating hours, passengers are advised to check the airport's status before travelling, especially if arriving outside of scheduled flight times. The terminal may close between flights. Overall, Foggia Gino Lisa Airport offers a no-fuss, practical gateway to northern Apulia, ideal for those who value efficiency and proximity to the region's agricultural and natural attractions.
