Busiest on Mondays around 1 pm — usually a little busy.
Tiny little airport, no shops available, the restaurant has been closed for a very long time! It is quick and efficient through security checks. Friendly staff. Clean and tidy. There are a few vending machines in the waiting area.
I've arrived today for the first time in Poitiers airport. Small, clean, only walking distance from the city. This is important to anyone because no bus service between the airport and Poitiers. Only taxy. Should be done something about it.
Small basic airport with no frills but everyone who works there are super friendly & helpful. Thanks for a great service.
A small quiet Airport with very few fights. I had a great experience here as the staffs were super friendly. You can reach from the AirPort transfer from the train station. tickets are also cheap from here:)
Aeroport de Poitiers-Biard sits 2.5 kilometres west of the city centre in the commune of Biard, serving as the primary commercial airport for the Poitiers area and the wider Vienne department. The airport handles a modest volume of traffic, with seasonal flights to destinations such as London Stansted and Ajaccio, plus occasional charter services. The single-terminal building is compact, functional, and rarely crowded, making it a straightforward option for travellers seeking an alternative to the larger hubs of Bordeaux, Nantes, or Paris.
The airport is located about 2.5 km from the centre of Poitiers, reachable by a short drive along the N147 or D26. A dedicated shuttle bus, the Navette Aéroport, connects the airport’s terminal with Poitiers’ train station (Gare de Poitiers) and a few central stops, with journeys timed to coincide with flight arrivals and departures. The trip takes roughly 15 minutes. For those driving, a free car park is available directly in front of the terminal, with a separate paid long-stay lot further out. Taxis can be found outside the terminal building; pre-booking is recommended for early or late flights. From Poitiers city centre, a taxi ride costs approximately €15 and takes 10 minutes. No direct rail line serves the airport, but the train station is well connected by bus.
The terminal is a single-storey building with a simple layout: check-in desks on one side, a small waiting area with vending machines, and a departure lounge that opens about an hour before each flight. Confirmed facilities include free Wi-Fi (network: Aeroport Poitiers, no password), accessible toilets for wheelchair users, and a baby-changing table in the main restroom. The entrance and car park are wheelchair-accessible, with ramps and designated parking spaces. There is no restaurant or café, but a vending machine dispenses drinks and snacks. Security consists of a single screening lane; queues are rare outside peak times. The airport is open only on days with scheduled flights—typically Monday through Thursday, with sporadic operations during other days. On evenings with no flights, the terminal is locked. Passengers arriving should expect a quick baggage claim (one belt) and easy exit to the car park or bus stop. The atmosphere is calm and unpretentious, with a small newsstand near the check-in area that also sells local maps and souvenirs.
Biard is a small commune of roughly 1,700 residents, but its significance extends well beyond the airport. The commune lies on the Clain River and has a quiet, residential character, with a few shops and restaurants near the town hall. For most visitors, Biard is simply the entry point to Poitiers, a city with a rich Gallo-Roman and medieval history. Poitiers itself is home to the futuristic Futuroscope theme park, a major draw for families and thrill-seekers. The park features 3D rides, virtual reality experiences, and multimedia shows, attracting over 1.8 million visitors annually. Within city centre, the historic district contains architectural gems such as the 4th-century Baptistère Saint-Jean (the oldest surviving Christian building in France) and the Romanesque church of Notre-Dame la Grande, with its intricately carved façade. Poitiers also has a vibrant university scene, with students making up a third of the population, giving the city a lively café culture and a range of affordable dining. The region is part of the historic province of Poitou, known for its Chasselas grapes, goat cheeses, and the Marais Poitevin marshlands—often called the "Green Venice"—located a short drive west. For business travellers, the airport serves the nearby Technopole du Futuroscope and the University of Poitiers. In short, Poitiers-Biard Airport offers a low-stress gateway to a region that combines medieval heritage, modern attractions, and natural beauty.
The airport is open only when flights are scheduled: typically Monday through Thursday, with busiest periods around 1 pm on Monday and 3–5 pm on Tuesday through Thursday. It is closed on most Fridays, weekends, and public holidays unless a flight is booked. Current flight schedules are listed on the official website (www.poitiers.aeroport.fr). For inquiries, call +33 5 49 30 04 40. There are no luggage storage services or left-luggage lockers. Security opens about 90 minutes before departure; check-in counters open two hours before a flight. The car park is free for the first hour, €2 per hour thereafter, with a daily maximum of €8. One concrete piece of advice: since the airport operates irregular hours, confirm your flight’s exact status with the airline or check the website before heading to the terminal—otherwise you may find the building locked and staff unavailable.
