Busiest on Mondays around 1 pm — usually busy.
Little airport, sadly without any commercial flights close to the city of Avignon, but without public transport. The bus is a joke ;-). So this sleeping beauty need flights. Runway is long enough for any corporate jet and in good condition. ILS approach from one side, visual circling from the other. ATC could be better, anyway tough airspace close to Orange Airbase.
Thanks Alexander !!!
A beautiful environment in the South of France. Very Mild warm temperatures
Acceptable airport even for GA private airplanes. Landing fees and one night parking ~34EU for 1200Kg. MTOW. Very far from the city: ~30 EU taxi is the only available choice.
Good efficient staff at the private air terminal.
Avignon - Provence Airport is a modest international gateway serving the historic city of Avignon and the wider Provence region in southeastern France. It caters primarily to leisure travellers visiting the area's cultural landmarks, vineyards, and lavender fields, as well as business passengers connecting to major European hubs. The airport handles a mix of scheduled flights, charters, and seasonal routes, with a focus on destinations in the United Kingdom, Belgium, the Netherlands, and other parts of France. Despite its compact size, the airport offers a surprisingly efficient and passenger-friendly experience, ideal for those who prefer to avoid the crowds of larger airports like Marseille Provence.
The airport is situated about 8 kilometres southeast of Avignon's city centre, near the town of Caumont-sur-Durance. Its location makes it convenient for travellers heading to Avignon itself, as well as to other Provençal destinations such as Arles, Nîmes, Aix-en-Provence, and the Luberon region. The airport is accessible by car via the A7 motorway (exit 24) and the D225 departmental road, with ample parking available, including designated spaces for reduced mobility. For those using public transport, a shuttle bus connects the airport to Avignon's central railway station (Gare d'Avignon Centre) with departures timed to coincide with flight arrivals. The journey takes approximately 20 minutes. Alternatively, passengers can pre-book a taxi or use rideshare services, which are readily available outside the terminal. For travellers arriving by bicycle, the airport also provides bike racks.
Avignon - Provence Airport is designed with accessibility and comfort in mind, particularly for passengers with reduced mobility. The terminal features wheelchair-accessible car parks, entrances, seating areas, and toilets, ensuring a smooth experience for those with mobility challenges. The airport offers free Wi-Fi throughout the terminal, allowing passengers to stay connected before boarding. Family travellers will appreciate the baby changing tables available in the restrooms. The toilets are clean and well maintained, and the airport provides a quiet, stress-free environment compared to larger hubs. The departure lounge includes comfortable seating and a small selection of vending machines for light refreshments. While the airport does not have a full restaurant or duty-free shop, its compact layout means that all services are easily accessible within a short walking distance.
Avignon - Provence Airport sits at the heart of one of France's most celebrated regions. Avignon itself is best known for the Palais des Papes, a vast Gothic palace that served as the seat of the papacy in the 14th century, and the iconic Pont Saint-Bénézet (the famous "Pont d'Avignon"). The city's historic centre is a UNESCO World Heritage site, drawing millions of visitors each year, especially during the renowned Festival d'Avignon in July. Beyond the city walls, the Provence region offers rolling vineyards, olive groves, and fields of lavender that bloom from late June to August. Towns like Gordes, Roussillon, and Saint-Rémy-de-Provence are easily reachable by car, as are the Roman theatres of Orange and Arles. The climate is typically Mediterranean, with hot summers and mild winters, making it a year-round destination for cultural tourism, cycling, and outdoor activities.
The airport operates on a seasonal schedule, with flights concentrated around midday – particularly between 12 pm and 1 pm, which are the peak hours for departures and arrivals. The terminal is not open all days of the week, so passengers should confirm flight times and terminal opening hours on the official website before travelling. The airport's website (http://avignon.aero/) provides up-to-date flight information, transport options, and contact details. For telephone enquiries, the airport can be reached at +33 4 90 81 51 51. It is advisable to arrive at least one hour before domestic flights and two hours before international departures to allow ample time for check-in and security. Given the airport's compact size, check-in and security are typically quick, but during peak hours queues may form. Passengers with specific accessibility requirements are encouraged to inform their airline in advance to arrange assistance. Overall, Avignon - Provence Airport offers a relaxed and functional entry point to one of France's most enchanting regions.
