Busiest on Mondays around 1 pm — usually as busy as it gets.
New and clean airport. It was spacious and comfortable. Cleanest toilets ever! ... Parking was easy. Drive up to the boom gate, take a ticket, open-air carpark will have abundant remaining space, pay at the automated kiosk next to the baggage collection belt when you want to drive out. ... The staff only appeared at the check-in counter about 1 hour before my scheduled flight time.
Very easy airport to navigate as its not too big. Free parking for the first 4 hours, and it's great if you want to send your friends off and even watch them go up the plane . As there is only one security lane, best to check-in early to avoid the long queue.
Great day out at Wellcamp airport. 2x e/a18g growlers from sqn. No. 6 (A46-304, a46-306) 2x 747 (Cathay Pacific 747-800)(Silkway West 747-400) Absolutely awesome time out there today.
Small modern and very clean airport with Cafe for snacks. Rest rooms are among the cleanest I have seen at any airport. Comfortable waiting areas with power/usb points for charging. Check in and security processing was very fast. Very friendly staff.
Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport (WTB) is a regional airport serving the city of Toowoomba and the broader Darling Downs region in Queensland, Australia. Opened in 2014, it is the first privately-owned public airport in Australia, built by the Wagner family on their farming property. The airport primarily handles domestic passenger flights and freight operations, providing a convenient alternative to Brisbane Airport for travellers heading west of the Great Dividing Range. It's used by both business and leisure passengers, including those visiting the region's agricultural hubs, wineries, and natural attractions. The airport's single terminal is designed for efficiency, with a focus on regional connectivity.
Wellcamp Airport is located approximately 17 kilometres west of Toowoomba's central business district, just off the Toowoomba-Cecil Plains Road. The airport sits in the rural locality of Wellcamp, surrounded by farmland and the rolling hills of the Darling Downs. For passengers coming from Toowoomba, driving time is about 20 minutes. The airport is also accessible from Brisbane, around 130 kilometres east via the Warrego Highway – a drive of roughly 1.5 hours. There is no direct public transport to the airport; most travellers arrive by private car, taxi, or rideshare. On-site parking is available, including short-term and long-term options. The airport is well-connected to the region's road network, making it a straightforward journey for those familiar with the area.
Despite its modest size, Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport offers a range of passenger amenities to ensure a comfortable experience. The terminal is fully wheelchair-accessible, with designated parking spaces, accessible entrances, seating areas, and toilets. These features make it easier for passengers with reduced mobility to navigate the airport independently. Baggage storage is available for travellers who need to store luggage before or after their flight – useful for those exploring the region without their bags. Free Wi-Fi is provided throughout the terminal, allowing passengers to stay connected while waiting. Other on-site services include a café or snack outlet (check current operations) and a small retail selection. Toilets are clean and well-maintained. While the airport lacks the extensive shops and lounges of major hubs, its facilities cover the essentials for a regional travel experience.
Toowoomba is known as the "Garden City" due to its numerous parks and gardens, set on the edge of the Great Dividing Range. The city enjoys a mild climate and is famous for its annual Carnival of Flowers, held in September. The surrounding Darling Downs region is a major agricultural area, producing grains, cotton, and livestock. Further south, the Granite Belt wine region offers cool-climate wineries and cellar doors popular with tourists. To the west lies the rugged terrain of the Condamine River valley and national parks like Main Range, ideal for bushwalking and wildlife spotting. The airport serves as a gateway for both business travellers in agribusiness and tourists seeking outdoor adventures or wine tours. Its location also makes it a useful alternative for those avoiding Brisbane's congestion when heading to the southern Queensland countryside.
Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport is not open 24 hours; its terminal operating hours align with flight schedules, typically opening a couple of hours before the first departure and closing after the last arrival. Peak passenger traffic occurs around 1 pm and 2 pm daily. The airport does not operate every day of the week – flight frequencies vary, so travellers should confirm departure times with their airline before heading to the terminal. For enquiries, the airport can be contacted by phone at +61 7 4614 3200. More information, including current flight schedules and parking details, is available on the official website: http://www.wellcamp.com.au. Always check ahead for any changes to hours or services, especially during public holidays.
