LOT Polish Airlines, operating with IATA code LO and ICAO code LOT, stands as the flag carrier of Poland and one of the oldest airlines in the world still in continuous operation. Founded on January 1, 1929, the airline was established as a state-owned enterprise through the merger of several smaller Polish aviation companies, including Aero and the Polish Airline Company. For nearly a century, LOT has served as a national symbol of Poland’s connectivity and resilience, navigating the challenges of World War II and decades of political change. Following the fall of communism, the airline underwent restructuring and partial privatisation, though it remains majority-owned by the Polish state through the Polish Aviation Group (Polska Grupa Lotnicza).
