This is such a great airport! It is absolutely beautiful to fly in and out of and the staff are great. The facilities are brand new and everything is very clean and well-managed. Parking is a breeze. I wish bigger airports were this nice.
Terrible airline partner. There's good reason Southern Airways Express has a terrible reputation. There's a good chance you'll be booted from a flight. I have already had to drive hours home because they couldn't complete the flight. I only give 2 stars to be generous to the staff at Williamsport. When they get a real airway in with professional service, I'll change the rating. For now, just drive to another airport, so you have a flight.
Hardly any planes fly in and out of here. I'm currently working here doing panels and windows for Williamsport Mirror and Glass
Our plane was leaving around 5:55am and we were instructed to be there at least an hour or two early for bagging processing and the usual routine only to find the airport dark, and closed! We had to wait outside in the cold for like 2 HOURS until the place opened up! I really hate to give this place such a low rating because the people were so nice once open and made my flying experience a calm and safe one.
Williamsport Regional Airport operates from a single terminal building on a 700-acre site three miles east of Montoursville in Lycoming County. The airport handles limited commercial service — primarily American Airlines flights to Philadelphia and Charlotte — along with general aviation traffic tied to regional businesses and the annual Little League World Series. Its compact scale means that passengers arriving on a typical Tuesday afternoon might be the only ones in the terminal, a quiet contrast to the surge of families and media that descends each August.
The airport sits at 328 Airport Road, Montoursville, Pennsylvania. From downtown Williamsport, the drive takes about 10 minutes via Market Street eastbound, which becomes Route 87. From Interstate 180, take exit 24B for Route 87 south and follow signs for the airport. Parking is immediately adjacent to the terminal: a short-term lot directly in front and a long-term lot a few steps away. Both lots are free — a notable perk for a regional airport. Lycoming County Transportation provides limited fixed-route bus service along the 87 corridor, but the nearest stop is half a mile from the terminal. Rideshare services operate here but can be scarce outside flight times; booking ahead is sensible. Taxis available from Williamsport Taxi (570-322-6666) or local car services. The airport has no rental car counter inside the terminal — you must walk about 200 yards to the Hertz office in a separate building; Enterprise offers drop-off service by reservation only.
The terminal consists of one main building with a single level. Upon entering, the check-in counter sits immediately to the left. American Airlines operates the only full-service counter, open two hours before each flight. The security checkpoint is directly past the lobby; TSA PreCheck is available. After security, the gate area holds about 60 seats, a mix of benches and chairs. Two televisions mounted on the wall show flight updates and local news. The restroom is wheelchair-accessible, with one unisex accessible toilet. A small concession stand sells snacks, soft drinks, and coffee — it opens only when flights are scheduled, so if you arrive early, bring your own. Free Wi-Fi is available (IPT Guest network), but speeds are adequate for browsing, not streaming. Charging outlets are limited to two power strips near the windows. The atmosphere is hushed and functional. Boarding begins 30 minutes before departure; gates are announced over the intercom. For arriving passengers, baggage claim is a single carousel in the same room as the check-in area. The entire process from curb to gate can take under 15 minutes on a slow day.
Montoursville itself is a borough of roughly 4,600 people along the West Branch Susquehanna River. Its history is tied to the lumber era — the Susquehanna Boom once held logs for the region's sawmills — and later to the aviation industry: the former Williamsport Air Depot operated here during World War II. Today, the town is best known as the home of the Little League World Series, which draws teams and spectators from around the world each August. The Little League International headquarters and complex sit less than three miles from the airport, making it a prime arrival point for families and media. Beyond that event, Montoursville offers access to the Pennsylvania Wilds region — a vast area of state forests, fishing streams, and hiking trails. The nearby Loyalsock Creek State Forest and the 30-mile Loyalsock Trail are popular with outdoor enthusiasts. The Williamsport Crosscutters, a collegiate summer baseball team, play at Bowman Field, a historic ballpark built in 1926. Downtown Williamsport, a 10-minute drive away, has a revitalized main street with restaurants, the Thomas T. Taber Museum, and the Hiawatha Paddlewheeler riverboat. The airport itself has a small aviation museum — the Piper Aviation Museum — housed in a former Piper Aircraft plant hangar, open seasonally. The Piper Cherokee and many other light aircraft were built in nearby Lock Haven. The region’s economy relies on manufacturing, health care, and education (Lycoming College and Pennsylvania College of Technology). What makes the airport relevant is its role as a quiet, stress-free alternative to larger hubs like Newark or Philadelphia for those traveling to central Pennsylvania. It is not the destination itself but the starting point for exploring a part of the state that rewards slow travel.
The airport is open daily from 5:30 AM to approximately 8:00 PM, but the terminal building may close earlier if no flights are scheduled. The busiest times are Monday and Wednesday at 1 PM and Thursday at 8 AM, coinciding with American Airlines flights to Philadelphia. General aviation operates 24/7 but the terminal is locked outside commercial hours. Contact: +1 570-368-2444 or visit www.flyipt.com. Parking is free. No ATMs are inside the terminal; the nearest bank is 1.5 miles away on Route 87. Food options are limited to the concession stand (open during flights) and vending machines. If you are catching an early morning flight, consider eating breakfast before you arrive. The terminal has wheelchair-accessible entrances, parking, seating, and toilets. One concrete piece of advice: if you are flying out on a Thursday morning, arrive 45 minutes before boarding — the 8 AM rush can create a short queue at security, but the process remains quick compared to large airports.
