Stupid security rules. It's like Sweden or at least this airport is not in EU. They are making their own rules...stupid 1L bag rule...and if I have to measure I do not think that stupid bag is for 1L, I think is less... It has 3,9 stars on google but definitely they payed for them because 1500 reviews are just 5 stars without any comment. Great Swedish TROLL business they have here!
Agree with others that said that this airport has its own stupid rules, flew many years and this is the only time the lady at security check had problems with my liquids bag, she just wants to terrorize other women, the men there didn't make a fuss for the same things. Awful experience
Intra Shengen flights from Eastern Europe just being brutally checked like crossing the Iron Curtain in 1975. Such a shamefull experience.
Read all 1 star reviews. Those reviews are all true! All those 2k reviews with 5 stars are all a lie! And please note that Google is helping them by not allowing negative comments! This is not OK, not ok at all....
Malmo Airport, also known as Malmo-Sturup, is an international airport serving the southernmost part of Sweden. It is the primary air hub for the city of Malmo and the wider Skane region, though it also functions as a secondary gateway for the Copenhagen area thanks to the nearby Oresund Bridge. The airport handles a mix of scheduled and charter flights, with a strong focus on European leisure destinations, particularly to the Mediterranean and the Balkans. Business travellers also use it for connections to Stockholm, London, and other major hubs. Compared to its much larger neighbour Copenhagen Airport, Malmo offers a more compact and relaxed experience, making it a popular choice for passengers heading to southwestern Sweden or those seeking an alternative entry point into the Oresund region.
Malmo Airport is situated about 30 kilometres (19 miles) east of central Malmo, near the small town of Sturup. It lies in a flat, rural landscape dominated by farmland and small villages, with no immediate major urban centre. The airport's location provides convenient road access via the E65 motorway, which connects Malmo to Ystad on the south coast. Driving from central Malmo typically takes 25–35 minutes, while Lund is about 35 minutes away. For those coming from Copenhagen, the journey is roughly one hour by car or taxi across the Oresund Bridge, though tolls apply.
Public transport is available through Flygbussarna coach services, which run between the airport and Malmo Central Station, with stops also in Lund. The journey to Malmo takes around 40 minutes. There is no direct rail link to the airport, but the coach connections are reliable and timed to match flight schedules. Taxis and ride-sharing services are readily available at the terminal, and several car rental companies operate on-site.
Malmo Airport, while modest in size, provides a range of essential amenities for passengers. The terminal is fully accessible: wheelchair-accessible car parking spaces are available close to the entrance, and the entrance itself is step-free. Accessible toilets are located within the terminal, and there are baby changing tables in the restrooms. Baggage storage is offered, allowing travellers to leave luggage for a few hours or a day — useful for layovers or short visits to Malmo before a flight.
Paid parking is available in both short-term and long-term lots, with the short-term area directly outside the terminal. The airport has basic services including toilets, a small shop, and a café or snack bar (though not confirmed in the amenities list, typical for this size). The peak hours are around 8 PM and 9 PM, suggesting an evening concentration of flights, particularly charter departures. Passengers should allow extra time during these busier periods. Note that the airport is not open around the clock; operating hours align with flight schedules, so travellers should check the status for their specific travel date.
Malmo Airport serves the Skane region, Sweden’s southernmost province, known for its rolling farmland, long sandy beaches, and historic cities. Malmo itself is a vibrant, multicultural city with a famous old town (Gamla Staden), the iconic Turning Torso skyscraper, and a lively food scene. The nearby city of Lund, just west of the airport, is home to one of Scandinavia’s oldest universities and a well-preserved Romanesque cathedral. To the south, the coastal town of Ystad offers medieval half-timbered houses and is the setting for the Wallander crime novels. The Oresund Bridge connects Malmo directly to Copenhagen, making the airport an alternative arrival point for visitors to Denmark as well. The region is also popular for outdoor activities, including cycling, sea kayaking, and hiking in the many nature reserves. Travelers flying into Malmo Airport often combine city breaks with visits to the countryside or the beach.
Malmo Airport offers a straightforward, efficient gateway to southern Sweden and the Oresund region, with essential facilities and easy transport links to Malmo, Lund, and beyond.
