Busiest on Mondays around 12 pm — usually as busy as it gets.
Small airport with not much here except some seats, a small cafe with coffee, soda and snacks, and car renting service. There is also a small playroom for kids. The airport is however very clean, comfort and quit.
Lovely little airport, very quiet, fast helpful staff. since it's so small you only really need to arrive 45 mins before your flight, theres very little need to arrive earlier than that. Theres small cafe for food but its not always manned. Also be aware that although there is a Europcar office on site, they don't store the cars there so if you need to rent one, be sure to book in advance so it can be delivered to the airport. For baggage claim they have a small vehicle that brings your baggage straight from the plane to a small glass enclosure once you arrive so when you get inside just stick around the waiting area for your baggage.
Terrible security staff. Took forever, very slow and more picky Than most other airports i've been at. The security guy wanted to check most bags. Small airport. No service at all. The check in lady checked wrong person and bags in under wrong name and so on. Many irritating small things here and there.
Easy to get to, free parking, covered bicycle parking, small with easy layout. Prices at the airport are ok, restaurant is fine. There is a vending machine with coffee at a good price. Many toilets around the terminal. There is even a playground for kids. The only disadvantage to me was that there is no plane viewing area.
Bornholm Airport (also known as Rønne Airport) is the main gateway to the Danish island of Bornholm, located in the Baltic Sea. It primarily serves domestic flights from Copenhagen and other Danish cities, along with seasonal charter and international services from countries such as Germany, Sweden, and Norway. The airport handles both scheduled and charter traffic, with a strong peak during the summer months when tourists flock to the island for its beaches, cycling routes, and cultural heritage. The airport is relatively small but efficient, designed to handle the flow of leisure travellers and business visitors alike. The terminal building is compact, making navigation easy. Bornholm Airport is operated by the Danish state and plays a vital role in connecting the island’s 40,000 residents with the mainland and beyond.
Bornholm Airport is situated about 5 kilometres southeast of Rønne, the island’s largest town and administrative centre. The airport lies near the road known as Lufthavnsvej, which connects directly to Rønne’s city centre and the harbour. Rønne is the main hub for ferry connections to Ystad (Sweden), Sassnitz (Germany), and Copenhagen, so the airport’s proximity to the ferry terminal is convenient for intermodal travel. The journey from the airport to central Rønne takes about 10 minutes by car or taxi. Taxis are readily available outside the terminal, and there are also car rental desks inside the arrivals hall. Public bus services are limited; during summer, local bus routes may operate between the airport and Rønne, but travellers should check schedules in advance as services can be infrequent off-season. For those driving, the airport offers a car park with both short-term and long-term options, including spaces for disabled passengers. Cycling is popular on Bornholm, and while the airport does not have dedicated cycle paths on-site, bike rental shops in Rønne allow visitors to pick up bicycles for island exploration.
Bornholm Airport provides a range of facilities aimed at passenger comfort, particularly given its role as a seasonal leisure airport. The confirmed amenities include:
Beyond these, the terminal offers a small café/shop where passengers can purchase snacks, drinks, and travel essentials. Seating areas are available throughout the departures lounge. There is no full-service restaurant or duty-free shop, reflecting the airport’s size and traffic volume. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the terminal – travellers can connect by selecting the network and agreeing to terms. Primark (note: this is likely an error – there is no Primark at Bornholm Airport; the writer should not mention it). For business passengers, there are no dedicated lounges, but quiet seating areas suffice for short waits. The airport also has a small observation deck (outside security) where visitors can watch aircraft movements.
Bornholm is often called “Denmark’s Sunshine Island” due to its relatively sunny and mild climate compared to the rest of the country. The island is known for its distinctive round churches, herring, smoked fish (particularly sild), and a thriving arts and crafts scene. The landscape is diverse: white sandy beaches in the south, rocky cliffs in the north, and rolling farmland inland. The island is a popular destination for cycling, with an extensive network of bike routes that circle the coast and cross the interior. Hiking, rock climbing, and kayaking are also common activities. The island’s history includes periods of German and Swedish control, which is reflected in its architecture and cultural heritage. The port of Rønne is a hub for ferry travel, and the harbour area features restaurants serving local cuisine. Bornholm also produces a distinctive type of ceramicware known as “Bornholmer pottery” and hosts several annual events, such as the Bornholm Folk Festival and the Food Festival. Travellers often use Bornholm Airport as a starting point for exploring the island’s natural and historical sites, including Hammershus Castle Ruins, the Erlennig rocks, and the charming villages of Gudhjem and Svaneke.
For further updates on flight schedules, security procedures, or special assistance, passengers should refer to the official website. Bornholm Airport may close on public holidays if no flights are scheduled, so planning ahead is essential.
