Ibiza Airport sits on the southern coast of the island, 7 kilometres southwest of Ibiza Town. It is the main air gateway to Ibiza and Formentera, handling over 8 million passengers annually, mostly between May and October. The airport has a single terminal building that has been expanded and modernised in recent years, but during peak summer weekends it can still feel crowded.

Getting There

Ibiza Airport is well connected to the main towns and resorts. The most common way to reach the airport is by road from Ibiza Town, a 15-minute drive via the PM-801 highway. Taxis are plentiful outside arrivals; fixed fares apply to popular destinations such as Ibiza Town (€15-20), Playa d'en Bossa (€12-15), and San Antonio (€25-30). The L10 bus line runs every 30 minutes from Ibiza Town bus station to the airport, with a journey time of about 25 minutes and a fare of around €4. Car rental desks from major companies are located in the arrivals hall, and the airport has both a paid parking lot and a paid multi-storey car park directly opposite the terminal. Parking rates are reasonable, but spaces fill up during peak hours (especially Monday 11am, Tuesday 5pm, Wednesday 3pm, Thursday 12pm). For those staying at nearby resorts, walking is not practical as the airport is surrounded by rural land and the road has no pedestrian path.

Inside the Terminal

The terminal is split over two levels: arrivals downstairs and departures upstairs. On arrival, passengers walk directly to the baggage claim area, which has two carousels. After collecting luggage, you pass through customs (usually quick) and exit into the arrivals hall, where you'll find taxi and bus information desks, car rental counters, and a small convenience store. There is also a baggage storage facility (left luggage) near the entrance, open daily from 6am to midnight.

Departures are on the upper level. The check-in hall has about 30 desks, plus self-service kiosks for most airlines. Security is located immediately after check-in; there are typically four lanes, but queues can build up during the busiest periods. The airside area is spacious, with several shops selling duty-free goods, fashion, and local products like ibicencan crafts and salt. You'll find a few restaurants and cafes, including a sandwich bar, a sit-down restaurant, and a Starbucks. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the terminal, without time limits or registration. The airport is fully wheelchair accessible, with accessible toilets, changing tables, and wheelchair-accessible seating in both landside and airside areas. There is also a dedicated accessible car park with spaces close to the terminal entrance.

For those with a layover, the airport is close enough to Ibiza Town that a quick taxi trip into the old town is feasible if you have three or more hours. The airport also serves as a base for general aviation and private jets, with a separate general aviation terminal on the south side.
