Always great to fly from there, with lots of feelings and love for Baljurashi Al Baha
Giving my 3 stars for the cleanliness and well organized airport, although its quite small ang lacks transportation service outside of the airport. Packaging/wrapping service cost 25 sar each luggage and the brother who acts like they are assisting you throughout the process will suddenly ask for money afterwards. I know the management have an idea regarding this issue but they dont care anyway.
Staff is very friendly and Airport is cleaned good view
King Saud Bin Abdulaziz Airport (IATA: ABT) serves the Al Baha region of southwestern Saudi Arabia, located roughly 45 kilometres from the city centre in the village of Al Aqiq. The airport handles domestic flights from Riyadh, Jeddah, and Dammam, operated by Saudia and Flynas. With a single terminal and runway, it functions as a quiet regional gateway that sees most of its traffic during morning hours. The modest facility is named after the former king and reflects the no‑frills character of many Saudi regional airports.
Al Aqiq sits off Route 15, the main highway linking Al Baha to Taif and the rest of the country. From Al Baha city, the drive takes around 35–45 minutes depending on traffic. Taxis are the most reliable option; fares are negotiable but expect around 60–80 SAR for the trip. There is no direct public bus service to the airport, so private cars or ride‑hailing apps are the alternatives. The airport has a paid parking lot with space for several dozen vehicles, rates starting at 10 SAR per hour. If you are driving from outside the region, the highway is well‑maintained, though mountain sections require caution at night due to fog and the occasional livestock crossing.
The terminal is compact: check‑in counters on the ground floor, with security screening immediately after. On departure, the waiting area has seating for roughly 150 passengers, basic vending machines, and a small café that serves tea, coffee, and packaged snacks. The airport provides wheelchair‑accessible entrances, toilets, and car park spaces. A baggage storage service operates from a desk near the check‑in area, useful if you want to explore Al Baha on a layover. The airport has a changing table in the restroom, making it more family‑friendly than some larger Saudi terminals. Security screening is efficient, and queues rarely build except on peak days — notably Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings. Arrivals is equally straightforward: luggage appears on a single carousel, and taxis wait just outside the exit. The atmosphere is calm, with staff generally helpful and fluent in Arabic, with some English.
Al Aqiq itself is a quiet agricultural village, known for its date palms, pomegranates, and the famous Al Baha honey produced from local acacia trees. The surrounding landscape is one of Saudi Arabia’s most scenic: terraced mountains, juniper forests, and deep valleys that contrast sharply with the deserts of the rest of the kingdom. This region, called the Sarawat Mountains, receives enough rainfall to sustain green vegetation for much of the year. Visitors often head to Raghadan Forest Park, about 30 minutes from the airport, where walking trails and picnic spots offer views over the escarpment. The historic village of Dhee Ayn, with its marble‑white houses built into a hillside, is an hour east. Al Baha city has a small museum documenting local heritage and crafts, particularly the traditional stone architecture and silver jewellery. The reason most travellers pass through this airport is either family business or tourism to the Asir region, but the airport itself serves as a simple, no‑surprises entry point. Unlike the country’s larger hubs, you will not find luxury lounges or duty‑free shopping — the emphasis here is on function. That works well for a region where the main draw lies beyond the terminal gates.
The airport is not open 24 hours; it operates around scheduled flights, with the terminal typically opening two hours before the first departure and closing after the last arrival. Peak times are weekdays between 9:00 and 10:00 AM. Phone: +966 9200 11233. The airport has no official website, but flight information can be obtained through Saudia or Flynas apps. There are no hotels at the airport, but Al Baha city has a few mid‑range options such as the Ramada by Wyndham. One practical tip: if you have a layover of more than three hours, use the baggage storage to leave your luggage and take a taxi to the nearby Al Aqiq souk — a small market selling local honey and dates — for a true taste of the region.
