Jumla Airport (IATA: JUM) is a domestic airport serving the town of Chandannath and the wider Jumla District in Karnali Province, Nepal. It is one of the highest altitude airports in the country, situated at approximately 2,500 metres (8,200 feet) above sea level. The airport primarily handles short take-off and landing (STOL) aircraft, such as the Twin Otter and Dornier Do 228, which connect this remote hill region to Nepal's capital, Kathmandu, as well as to Nepalgunj and other regional hubs.

For travellers, Jumla Airport is the main aerial gateway to the far western mountains of Nepal. It is used by both domestic tourists heading to Rara Lake – the largest lake in Nepal – and by local residents for whom air travel is often the most practical way to reach the rest of the country, given the challenging road conditions. The airport also supports cargo flights, delivering essential goods and supplies to an area that remains one of the least developed in Nepal.

Jumla Airport lies just east of Chandannath, the administrative centre of Jumla District. The airport is about 2 kilometres from the town centre, a walk or short taxi ride of roughly 15 minutes. The nearest major city is Nepalgunj, approximately 240 kilometres to the south as the crow flies, but the overland journey takes more than 10 hours by bus over rough mountain roads.

Access to the airport is via a single winding road that connects Chandannath to the airport terminal. Most travellers arrive by taxi or private vehicle from Jumla town. There is no public bus service directly to the airport, but shared jeeps are sometimes available from the main bus park. The airport does not have a dedicated car park; vehicles typically stop on the roadside or in a small unpaved area near the terminal entrance. Given the high altitude and rugged terrain, visitors should be prepared for cold weather even during the summer months, and road conditions may be slippery during the monsoon (June–September).

The primary tourist attraction near Jumla is Rara Lake, located about 60 kilometres northwest of the airport. Rara Lake is the largest lake in Nepal, situated at an altitude of 2,990 metres within Rara National Park. The park is home to wildlife such as the red panda, Himalayan black bear, and numerous bird species. Trekking to Rara Lake is a popular activity, and the airport serves as the main entry point for those who do not wish to undertake the long overland journey.

Beyond Rara, the region offers off-the-beaten-path trekking routes, including the Karnali River for rafting, and visits to remote villages with distinct ethnic cultures, such as the Thakuri and Dalit communities. Jumla town itself has historical sites, including the Jumla Durbar (palace) and several ancient temples. The area is also known for its production of medicinal herbs, especially Jimbu (a type of wild onion used in Nepali cuisine).

Hours of operation: Jumla Airport does not operate every day. Flights are generally scheduled in the morning, but peak hours are reported around 4 pm and 5 pm, which may correspond to afternoon arrivals or departures. Passengers should confirm flight times with the airline, as schedules are highly weather-dependent and subject to cancellation.
