Small but clean airport, Staff really friendly. I hope the ground staff can update information related to this airport in FlightRadar24 app. It's really useful for passanger to know it. Thanks Angkasa Pura
Honestly, can't really complain much about this airport. The service was fast, the toilets were clean, the only downside is they still need to figure out how to follow health protocols during boarding time.
Been there several times by now. It's a small airport. However it's clean and the facilities are OK. Despite of the size, they still got caffees, restaurants, gadget charging station, kids play area, free drink water, and the toilets are also clean. It's a nice little airport
not so big airport but the service is very pleasant, and clean airport, the parking lot is spacious but not many restaurant.
Juwata Airport (IATA: TRK) serves as the primary air gateway to Tarakan, an island city off the coast of North Kalimantan, Indonesia. As an international airport, it handles flights from major Indonesian hubs such as Jakarta, Surabaya, and Balikpapan, as well as regional international routes connecting to Malaysia. The airport is a vital link for both business travelers heading to the oil and gas industry and tourists exploring the natural wonders of northern Borneo. With a single terminal, Juwata Airport is modest in size but efficiently handles passenger traffic, especially during peak hours around 1 pm and 2 pm when several flights are scheduled. The terminal includes basic check-in counters, waiting areas, and customs facilities for international arrivals.
Juwata Airport is situated on the eastern side of Tarakan Island, approximately 4 kilometers from the city center. The airport’s address is Jl. Jenderal Sudirman, Tarakan, North Kalimantan. Travelers can reach the city center by taxi, ride-hailing services, or airport shuttle buses. The drive takes about 10–15 minutes depending on traffic. Tarakan itself is a relatively compact city, so most hotels and business districts are easily accessible. For those heading to other parts of North Kalimantan, such as Malinau or Nunukan, connecting flights or boat services are available from Tarakan’s harbor, which is a short taxi ride from the airport. The airport is also a common starting point for trips to the Derawan Archipelago, though travelers typically take a ferry from Tarakan to the islands.
Juwata Airport provides essential amenities for passenger comfort. The terminal is wheelchair accessible, with designated parking spaces, accessible entrances, and wheelchair-accessible toilets throughout the building. Baggage storage services are available for travelers who wish to explore the city without lugging their suitcases. Standard toilet facilities include a changing table for families with infants. While the airport does not offer extensive shopping or dining options, there are basic concessions for snacks and beverages. A prayer room is available for Muslim travelers, and the airport provides an information desk for inquiries. Given the airport’s size, services are straightforward and easy to navigate.
Tarakan Island has a rich history as a center of oil production since the early 20th century, and the industry remains a key economic driver. The city of Tarakan is the capital of North Kalimantan province, a region known for its dense rainforests, biodiversity, and indigenous Dayak communities. Travelers often pass through Tarakan en route to the Derawan Islands, famed for their marine life, jellyfish lakes, and turtle nesting sites. The island itself offers some attractions, including the Tarakan Museum, which chronicles the area’s roles in World War II, and the scenic beaches along the coast. The local cuisine features seafood and traditional dishes like nasi kuning. The climate is tropical, with high humidity and rainfall year-round; the dry season from May to October is the most pleasant for travel.
Juwata Airport is not open around the clock; it operates during scheduled flight times, so travelers should plan arrivals accordingly. The airport’s peak hours are around 1 pm and 2 pm, when congestion may be higher. For specific flight schedules, check with airlines or the airport’s website. The official website is https://juwataairport.co.id/ and the phone number is +62 551 2026111. The airport code is TRK. As with most Indonesian airports, it is advisable to arrive at least two hours before domestic flights and three hours before international flights. For those with layovers, baggage storage allows short-term exploration of the city. Accessibility features ensure smooth travel for passengers with reduced mobility.
