Busiest on Mondays around 10 am — usually as busy as it gets.
The airport is much better than when i visited the last time in 2018. There are more stores and restos now. Wish they have better toilet in the arrival hall next to the mushall. The floor was wet and smelly.
All staff from check in to immigration to customs are all very polite and friendly. Congratulations and keep up the good attitude . Good luck Indonesia
Minangkabau International Airport is small but ok. Authentic and symbolic design makes it unique
Only have 4 immigration counters when you arrive. 2 for local another 2 for foreigner. Need to long queve at the counter. The airport is small. Yet the facilities are equipped. Musholla is located after you enter the gate..
Minangkabau International Airport (IATA: PDG) is the primary air gateway to West Sumatra and the Mentawai Islands. Located in Padang Pariaman Regency, the airport serves both domestic and international flights, connecting the region with major Indonesian cities such as Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, and Singapore. Named after the indigenous Minangkabau people, the airport reflects the cultural heritage of the area. Opened to replace the smaller Tabing Airport, Minangkabau International Airport features a single terminal designed with traditional Rumah Gadang architectural elements, symbolising the region's identity. The airport handles hundreds of thousands of passengers annually, catering to tourists, business travellers, and locals alike.
The airport is situated approximately 23 kilometres north of Padang, the provincial capital, in the town of Ketaping, Padang Pariaman Regency. Access is via the Trans-Sumatra Highway (Jalan Lintas Barat Sumatra), a well-maintained road that links Padang to Bukittinggi and other cities. Travel time from central Padang is typically 30–45 minutes by car, though traffic can extend this during peak hours.
Getting to and from the airport:
For travellers heading to the Mentawai Islands, the airport is a common arrival point before continuing by ferry from Padang or the smaller port of Bungus.
Minangkabau International Airport offers a range of passenger amenities confirmed to be available:
Other on-site services include standard airport retail (limited to convenience stores and souvenir shops) and food outlets offering local coffee and snacks. During peak hours, typically in the late afternoon (4–5 PM), the terminal can become crowded, so allow extra time for check-in and security.
Note that the airport is not open 24 hours; operating hours align with flight schedules. Passengers should verify specific facility hours and availability through the official website.
