Busiest on Mondays around 10 am — usually as busy as it gets.
Lombok International Airport is either recently renovated or newly built. It's impressive because the design uses colour, space and light smartly. Being new, it has a high ceiling and the ceiling allows ample ambient lights into the building. The walls are also in white bright colour tones and this gives it a Big Spacious feel, very welcoming. (See my pictures and video ) The airport reallocated the pick up points to be much further back. This is a brilliant design consideration. Instead of pick-up right at the front door and you have hundreds of people crowding around and holding up name boards, it gives the opportunity for the passengers to walk out to a more spacious area to find their pick drivers . On departure, there are lots of restaurants to eat from including a Starbucks cafe . You have Indonesia Food, Western, Sandwich...etc and some shopping areas in the middle. The domestic flights are separated from the international flight area and both have ample space to wait, charge your mobile devices and eat comfortably. I enjoy coming to this airport. So if you are departing, do come early and just hang around. If you are lucky like me, you might even catch a live performance!
the government should upgrade this place and make sure all the public facilities workin well consider the island was one of potential destination for tourism's
1 hour to get luggage and they opened it forcefully instead of using TSA approved lock on my samsonite. Damaged zipper and damaged wheels. I know my bag was opened because it was arranged differently when opened at hotel. Never keep valuables in your suitcase. Update: turns out security dropped items from my suitcase, did not admit or report and tried to cover it up.
Clean and well maintained airport. Bit far from the city but the transportation option are vary from taxi to damri
Lombok International Airport (LOP) serves as the main gateway to the island of Lombok in West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. It handles both domestic flights from major Indonesian cities and a growing number of international routes, primarily from neighbouring countries such as Malaysia, Singapore, and Australia. The airport is a modern facility that replaced the older Selaparang Airport near Mataram, offering a more spacious and efficient experience for the increasing number of tourists heading to Lombok’s beaches, Mount Rinjani, and the Gili Islands. The single terminal building handles both arrivals and departures, with a straightforward layout that makes navigation easy even for first-time visitors.
Lombok International Airport is situated in Central Lombok Regency, approximately 30 kilometres south of Mataram, the island’s largest city. It lies about 15 kilometres east of the popular tourism area of Kuta Lombok, known for its surf breaks and white-sand beaches. The drive from the airport to Mataram typically takes 45 minutes to an hour, depending on traffic, while Kuta can be reached in about 20–30 minutes. Taxis and ride-hailing services are available from the arrivals area, with fixed-price options to major destinations. Pre-booked private transfers are also common, especially for groups heading to the northern Gili Islands or the Rinjani trekking trailheads. Rental car desks operate inside the terminal, though self-driving is less common due to local driving conditions. Bemo (minibus) services connect the airport to Mataram’s Mandalika terminal, but schedules can be irregular. Most travellers opt for taxis or private drivers for convenience.
Lombok International Airport provides a range of facilities designed to accommodate passengers with diverse needs. The terminal is fully wheelchair-accessible, with accessible entrances, toilets, car parking spaces, and seating throughout. Wheelchair rental is available on-site, and assisted listening devices with hearing loops are provided at service counters for passengers with hearing impairments. Baggage storage services allow travellers to stow luggage for a few hours or days, ideal for short stopovers or before a trek. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the public areas, though connection speeds may vary during peak hours. Toilets are clean and include changing tables for families with infants. A paid parking lot operates directly in front of the terminal, with short-term and long-term rates. The airport also offers basic shopping and dining options, including a convenience store and cafes serving Indonesian coffee and snacks, located after security in the departure lounge.
Lombok is part of the Lesser Sunda Islands, separated from Bali by the Lombok Strait. The island is famed for its dramatic volcanic landscape dominated by Mount Rinjani, an active volcano that draws trekkers to its crater lake and summit. The southern coastline around Kuta offers world-class surfing, while the three Gili Islands—Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno, and Gili Air—are celebrated for their coral reefs, crystal-clear water, and car-free environment. Lombok also has a distinct culture, with a majority Sasak population and traditional weaving villages such as Sukarara. The Mandalika Special Economic Zone, a major tourism development south of the airport, includes a MotoGP circuit and luxury resorts. The region’s dry season (April to October) sees the highest visitor numbers, with domestic tourists increasing during school holidays and long weekends. The airport is therefore busiest in the mid-morning, particularly between 9 and 10 am, when multiple flights depart to Jakarta, Bali, and Surabaya.
Lombok International Airport is open daily, but not around the clock—terminal doors typically open a few hours before the first flight and close after the last arrival. It is advisable to arrive at least two hours before domestic flights and three hours for international departures. The official website (lombok-airport.co.id) provides flight schedules, airline contacts, and announcements. For inquiries, the airport can be reached by phone at +62 851-4722-4768. Peak hours are concentrated between 9 am and 10 am, so expect longer queues at check-in and security during that window. Smoking is prohibited inside the terminal, but designated smoking areas are located outside near the entrance. Currency exchange counters and ATMs are available in both the public and transit areas, though rates may be less favourable than in town. Cash is still king for local taxis and small purchases, so it is wise to carry Indonesian rupiah upon arrival.
