Binaka Airport is the main airport serving the whole Nias island. It is located around 30 minutes drive from Gunungsitoli town. It just a small airport with very limited and simple but with adequate airport facilities. The current airport runway only capables to handle propeller aircrafts. The airport can handle two aircrafts at the same time. No aerobridge is available here. All passengers need to walk from apron to terminal buildings. The arrival hall has toilet and baggage conveyor only. The only land transportation from the airport to other destinations at Nias island are the private hire cars. No fixed pricing for the land transfer. Direct negotation must be done within passengers and drivers. Payment is by cash only The departure hall is equipped with very simple check in counters, toilets and food counters which serve cup noodles and ready to eat food. Numerous seats are available at the waiting room. The waiting room is equipped with air conditioning but is not so cold. Parking is available for cars and motorbikes with charges. The airport is directly linked to the main roads of the island.
Watch out for the Wings Air staff that try to scam you by making you pay for services that were paid for online. They are obviously trying to pocket the extra cash because will literally barter with you about the price and if you don't have the amount they will eventually take less. They hold your boarding pass until close to time to board to try to get more money. I've included photos of two of the staff that were present and trying to get more money

On top of being charged extra for my check in luggage at Wings Air when I was sure for certain I was under the weight limit, I then had to deal with shockingly rude staff at this small rubbish airport. Its all well and fine on arrival but if you depart from this airport, the staff have a small powertrip sulk if you prove them wrong when you in fact only have one lighter on you and not two. The guard insisted I had 2 and when they found out I didnt, he kept the one I had and insisted on not looking at me in the eye from sheer embarrassment. It was all handled so poorly that I got quite upset as no one could give me one solid reason why they were confiscating all the lighters. Every single other airport ive been to in my life, allows people to carry at least one. Yes, sure they may have their own rules, but this was petty on a whole new level. He was so pathetic because he just didnt want to admit he was wrong and everyone at this airport backed him up. I feel totally scammed and poorly treated. Avoid at all costs if you can.
As a Nias local airport, I'm not very satisfied with the cleanliness. They should have a toilet inside the waiting room. The public transportation are plenty through renting cars (Rp. 600k at minimum for a full day trip). Not all of the drivers are well informed, FYI. I have to pay Rp 40k to go to the capital city, Gunungsitoli.
