This is a beautiful airport with brand-new materials. It is really really clean. And there's a great little coffee shop. This is a wonderful airport !
Cute airport but the airport staff really need some upskilling. The lounge prepares food at snail's place, taking 45 mins to an hour for one dish to come out. Eventually the noodles come out with meat despite repeated requests to make it vegetarian Flight has been delayed for 4 hrs because of volcanic eruption but no announcement or signs Better to head to LBJ by road unless you are feeling lucky
The airport is small but pleasant and clean. My flight was delayed for several hours due to bad weather. There are only a few shops near the departure gate, including a coffee cafe and a grocery store. Waiting for a long time can be a bit boring. At the arrival gate, there is only one baggage area and no currency exchange services. Taxis are available, with fares to the city costing 60,000 IDR and to Moni costing 600,000 IDR (prices as of June 2024). If you want to make exchange, the Euro is preferred and you have to go the bank such BNI bank in the city.
A very small airport with a nice view during take-off/landing.. arrived 2 hours before my scheduled flight on friday afternoon and apparently it was too early.. airport was still closed and i was instructed to come 1 hour before my flight.. other than that it was a pleasant experience flying from this airport.
Bandara H. Hasan Aroeboesman Ende is a regional airport serving the town of Ende on the island of Flores, part of East Nusa Tenggara province in Indonesia. It is one of several airports that connect this eastern region to the rest of the country, primarily handling domestic flights to and from Kupang (El Tari Airport), Bali (Ngurah Rai), and occasionally other hubs like Labuan Bajo. The airport is named after a local hero or notable figure, reflecting the area’s cultural heritage. While small, it plays an essential role for residents and tourists visiting central Flores, particularly those heading to the famous Kelimutu National Park with its three-coloured crater lakes.
The airport is situated just a few kilometres southeast of Ende’s city centre, making it easily accessible by road. Ende itself lies on the southern coast of Flores, facing the Savu Sea. The drive from downtown Ende to the airport typically takes under 15 minutes by car or taxi. There are limited public transport options; most travellers rely on private cars, ride-hailing apps (where available), or pre-arranged hotel transfers. The airport’s proximity to town means you can even walk if you’re staying nearby, though the lack of pedestrian infrastructure makes that less advisable. For those coming from outside Ende, such as from Moni (the gateway to Kelimutu) or from Bajawa to the west, road travel can take several hours by car or bus. The nearest major airports with broader connections are in Labuan Bajo (west) and Maumere (east), but Ende’s airport offers the most direct access to central Flores attractions.
Despite its modest size, the airport provides a few key amenities that improve passenger comfort, especially for travellers with mobility needs or families with young children.
Other facilities are minimal. There is no large food court or duty‑free shop, but a small snack kiosk or vending machines may be present. Wi‑Fi is not guaranteed; plan to use mobile data. The airport is primarily functional – a place to check in, wait, and board. Given the limited services, it’s wise to bring your own snacks and water for the journey.
Ende and its surrounding area are a gateway to some of Indonesia’s most remarkable natural wonders. The region’s star attraction is Mount Kelimutu, a volcano with three crater lakes that shift colours unpredictably – from turquoise to green to red or brown. The lakes are a sacred site for local Lio people and draw hikers and photographers from around the world. The town of Moni, at the foot of the volcano, is the usual base for sunrise treks.
Beyond Kelimutu, Flores itself is a long, mountainous island known for its traditional villages (like Bena and Wae Rebo), weaving traditions, and diverse marine life. Ende has historical significance as the site where Indonesia’s first president, Sukarno, was exiled in the 1930s; the Bung Karno Exile Museum in Ende commemorates this period. The region is also known for its coffee and vanilla plantations.
Travellers flying into Ende typically do so for Kelimutu or to connect to other parts of Flores by road. The airport is a calm but vital link, avoiding the longer drives from Labuan Bajo or Maumere.
For a smooth experience, plan ahead: arrange ground transport, check flight status, and pack patience. Bandara H. Hasan Aroeboesman is a small but capable airport that gets you into the heart of Flores’ natural beauty.
