Kangra Airport is situated in the village of Gaggal, approximately 14 kilometres from Dharamshala and 10 kilometres from the town of Kangra. The airport lies at the foot of the Dhauladhar range of the Himalayas, surrounded by lush green fields and tea gardens. The nearest major city is Pathankot, about 85 kilometres away, which also has a railway station and a larger airport.

By Road: The airport is well connected by road via National Highway 154. Taxis and auto-rickshaws are readily available outside the terminal for trips to Dharamshala, McLeod Ganj, Kangra, and other nearby towns. State-run buses also stop near the airport, with frequent services to Dharamshala and Kangra. Many hotels offer pre-arranged pickups. For those driving, the airport has a paid parking lot that is wheelchair-accessible.

By Rail: The nearest railway station is Kangra Mandir, about 10 kilometres away, on the narrow-gauge Kangra Valley Railway line from Pathankot. This scenic train journey is popular among tourists but is slower than road transport. Pathankot Junction, a major broad-gauge station, is about 85 kilometres away and connects to cities across India.

By Air: Regular flights operate from Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, with flight durations of around 90 minutes. Other seasonal or charter flights may connect to nearby cities.
