Nice small airport in close proximity to Jalandhar. Only few commercial flights and one of the flight goes to Hazur Sahib. Flights are starting to Mumbai and Jaipur in April 2025. Security Police personnel and Star Airlines were nice and polite. Security check was very comprehensive. Each piece of luggage in hand was tagged for security clearance. Airport has a small EA8 and Fly shop after security check, which is partly functional.
A small newly built civilian terminal on an old air force base station . It's very near to Jalandhar. Excellent facilities. However approach roads need improvement. Adampur has a railway station but it is not named as Adampur. Can you guess the name of the Railway station? A railway station with very funny name KALA BAKRA is just a couple km away from Adampur.
Providing domestic connectivity... Easily accessible by your own vehicle. Having two flights Star Airlines from Adampur- Hindon-Naded and Indigo flight will provide you connectivity from Adampur to Bombay. Atmosphere is good.
Friends, result of my today's flight from here was really nice. Quick check in & security check. Flight on time, landed well. What more is required from Adampur Airport... Now on, all my Delhi trips from this route.
Adampur Airport (IATA: AIP, ICAO: VIAX) is a domestic airport located in the town of Adampur, approximately 25 kilometres (16 miles) from Jalandhar in the Indian state of Punjab. It serves as a key regional gateway for the Doaba region, handling scheduled flights primarily to major Indian cities. The airport is operated by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and, while relatively small, has undergone upgrades to improve passenger facilities and accommodate growing demand.
Adampur Airport plays an important role in connecting Jalandhar, a major commercial and industrial centre, with the rest of India. The city is known for its sports goods manufacturing and is a hub for the Punjabi diaspora, with many residents having family abroad. The airport provides an alternative to larger airports such as Amritsar and Chandigarh, reducing travel time for those in the northern part of Punjab. It also supports local tourism, offering access to historical sites like the ancient city of Kapurthala and the Sikh shrine of Sri Hargobindpur.
The airport is equipped with a range of passenger amenities to ensure a comfortable experience. These include:
Note that the airport is relatively compact, so amenities are limited compared to larger hubs. Dining options are minimal, and there is no official lounge. Passengers are advised to bring their own snacks if needed.
Adampur Airport is not open 24/7; it operates on a schedule aligned with flight arrivals and departures. According to available data, the busiest periods are typically in the afternoon, with peak hours around 2 PM and 3 PM. Travelers should plan to arrive at least one hour before domestic flights to allow sufficient time for check-in and security clearance. On days with fewer flights, the terminal may be quieter, but it's always wise to check the flight status in advance.
For inquiries, passengers can reach the airport directly:
For lost and found or other specific services, it's best to call during operational hours.
The airport is situated near the Adampur village, accessible via National Highway 44 (formerly NH 1). Taxis and auto-rickshaws are available from Jalandhar city centre, and the journey typically takes 30–40 minutes, depending on traffic. Bus services operate from the Jalandhar bus stand to Adampur town, from where a short tuk-tuk ride will reach the terminal. By car, follow signs from the highway; the entrance is clearly marked.
Adampur Airport offers a straightforward, hassle-free experience for travellers flying to and from Jalandhar. Its compact size means shorter walking distances and quicker processing times, making it a convenient choice for regional journeys.
