Busiest on Mondays around 7 pm — usually busy.
Arrived early and took our time. Check in was relaxed, security around 15 minutes but you dont mind that. Duty free had a great range and staff were very helpful and friendly. Seating was a bit restricted but we found a seat within 10 mins for a sandwich and quick drink before heading to a bar to relax. We waited the last 45 mins at the gate in the departure seats which are comfy and we were off 10 mins early with no trouble. Thank you to all the teams both inside and ground support
It's a compact airport, but with all the essentials - there was a cafe, pizza place and souvenir shop, making it easy to grab last-minute gifts or local Greek products. We flew in July, and it was very busy! Seemed like the waiting area was a bit not enough, but some flights were delayed. I believe it's fine at the rest of the year.
Well, not my first time so already done shipwreck cove and Marthonisi circuit seeing a turtle was magical. Good work being done protecting the nests and masking lights so hatched turtles go to the moon not squished on road. Volimes by hire car and cut down to Porto Vromi and various other coves at Kalamaki end of island lots of good food and both Greek, Indian and the joys of Salad and Herbs grown in the sun and the special Zante soil. Violent thunderstorm with lots of rain was a shock to some but with warmer air more moisture held so when it let go inches in hours flooded the road to airport some caught up in that found difficulty with accommodation but survived all soaked in 24 hours later so panic over.A dream holiday and my youngest daughter chilled for a week in Kalamaki with Laganas for clubbing but we did not feel the urge ! A cracking trip. Portugal next month to check out the results of poor management of forests with resulting wildfires about an hour from Coimbra, that will be a longer break camping out in a patch of forest, at 78 years a big adventure !
Very small airport. Everything was OK, nothing to complain about. The departure area has a lot of seating, they even bring more chairs to fit as many people as possible (there will still be people standing when it's crowded).
Zakynthos International Airport Dionysios Solomos (ZTH) is the main air gateway to the Greek island of Zakynthos, also known as Zante. It is a relatively compact airport that handles mostly seasonal international flights, with high traffic from late spring to early autumn. Named after the renowned Greek poet Dionysios Solomos, the airport serves both charter and scheduled airlines, connecting the island to major European cities. During the peak summer months, it sees a significant influx of tourists drawn to the island's famous beaches, turquoise waters, and vibrant nightlife. The airport's peak hours, according to schedule data, fall around 5 pm and 6 pm, reflecting the arrival of many afternoon flights. Note that the airport is not open year-round on a daily basis; its operating schedule is aligned with the tourist season, so travellers should confirm flight availability outside the core summer period.
Zakynthos Airport is situated on the eastern side of the island, approximately 4 km (2.5 miles) south of Zakynthos Town (also referred to as Zante Town). The airport's address is simply Zakynthos 291 00, Greece. Getting to and from the airport is straightforward:
Parking at the airport includes both free and paid lots. The free parking lot is located within walking distance of the terminal, while the paid parking lot offers closer convenience for those willing to pay a small fee.
The airport, though compact, provides essential amenities to ensure a comfortable experience for passengers, including those with reduced mobility.
It is important to note that the airport does not operate 24/7; it closes overnight when no flights are scheduled. The terminal facilities, including shops and eateries, open approximately two hours before the first departure and close after the last arrival.
Zakynthos is the southernmost of the Ionian Islands, known for its dramatic coastline, emerald waters, and lush green hillsides. The island is world-famous for Navagio Beach (Shipwreck Beach), a secluded cove accessible only by boat, where the rusty wreck of a smuggler’s ship rests on powdery white sand. Other natural highlights include the Blue Caves at the northern tip, where sunlight creates a dazzling blue glow in the water, and the Keri Caves in the south.
The island is also a crucial nesting site for the loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta), particularly on the beaches of Laganas Bay, which forms part of the National Marine Park of Zakynthos. Conservation efforts are a key part of the local identity, and visitors are encouraged to respect nesting areas.
Beyond nature, Zakynthos offers a rich cultural heritage. Zakynthos Town features a mix of Venetian and Greek architecture, with landmarks such as the Church of Agios Dionysios (the island’s patron saint) and the Solomos Museum, dedicated to the poet. The island’s cuisine emphasizes fresh seafood, olive oil, and local cheeses like ladotyri.
The airport’s seasonal operation reflects the fact that Zakynthos is primarily a summer destination, though the shoulder months of May and September can offer pleasant weather with fewer crowds.
