Busiest on Mondays around 4 pm — usually a little busy.
We gave away a voucher for a gyrocopter. The person really liked it, and it was very impressive to fly it. It's an experience that will stay with them forever. However, it should be mentioned that there's no place for family members to sit while waiting for the flight. There are only two benches in the shade, all of which are occupied. Otherwise, you're standing, like in today's sunshine, exposed to the heat. Many family members were there waiting today. It's certainly a good reminder to think about.
I had a voucher through Mydays for a self-flying experience in a small plane (without takeoff and landing) with the Magdeburg flight school. The organization was excellent. The flight itself was perfect, the weather was great, and the pilot was very competent and helpful. You can also book directly with the Magdeburg flight school Anyone who enjoys flying and is interested should definitely inquire there.
As a flight-enthusiast hobby pilot (flight sim) I enjoy standing by the fence and watching the planes taking off and landing at EDBM. :-)))
FMB Airfield Magdeburg mbH (ICAO: EDBM) is a general aviation airfield located near the city of Magdeburg, the capital of the German state of Saxony-Anhalt. It primarily serves private pilots, flight training schools, and business aviation. Unlike major commercial airports, EDBM does not handle scheduled passenger flights; instead, it caters to recreational flyers, corporate aircraft, and occasional charter operations. The airfield is also used by local flying clubs and for glider towing. Its role is to provide accessible facilities for pilots and passengers who need to reach the Magdeburg region quickly and flexibly.
The airfield has a single runway and basic infrastructure typical of a regional airstrip. It is owned and operated by the company FMB Flugplatz Magdeburg mbH, which maintains the site and ensures safety standards. The airfield is open on a part-time basis – not every day of the week – so users must check operating hours in advance. Peak activity tends to occur in the afternoon, particularly around 3 pm and 4 pm, when most traffic is concentrated.
FMB Airfield Magdeburg is situated roughly 10 miles (16 km) northeast of downtown Magdeburg, close to the village of Zackmünde. The exact address is Flugplatz Magdeburg, 39291 Möser (Zackmünde). The airfield lies in the flat, agricultural landscape of the Elbe-Börde region, near the river Elbe. This location offers good airspace conditions and easy visual navigation.
Access by road is straightforward. From Magdeburg city centre, take the B1 east towards Burg, then follow signs to Möser and Zackmünde. The airfield is just off the L53 state road. There is free street parking available on site, as well as a free parking lot and a paid multi-storey car park. The multi-storey is likely for longer stays or for those requiring covered parking. The car park is wheelchair-accessible, with designated spaces close to the terminal building.
Public transport options are limited. The nearest railway station is in Möser, a village about 3 km away, which is served by regional trains from Magdeburg Hauptbahnhof. From there, a taxi or a pre-arranged shuttle is needed to reach the airfield. There is no direct bus service to the airfield itself.
For pilots, EDBM is a towered airfield with radio communication (frequency 123.450 MHz). It lies within controlled airspace – a mandatory radio zone – so pilots must obtain clearance before entering. The airfield does not have customs facilities, so international flights must arrive at an airport of entry first.
Despite its modest size, FMB Airfield Magdeburg provides essential amenities for passengers and visitors. All confirmed facilities are designed with accessibility in mind.
Other typical facilities at general aviation airfields include a small pilot lounge, a flight planning room (likely with internet access), and basic refreshment vending machines. However, those are not confirmed in the available data. For meals or supplies, the nearest options are in Zackmünde or Möser, a short drive away. There is no on-site restaurant or hotel at the airfield.
Magdeburg is one of Germany’s historic cities, with a history spanning over 1,200 years. It lies on the River Elbe and is known for the Magdeburg Cathedral (the first Gothic cathedral built on German soil) and the Magdeburg Reiter, a famous equestrian statue. The city was heavily damaged in World War II but has been rebuilt and retains many landmarks. Today, Magdeburg is an industrial and transport hub, with an economy based on machinery, chemicals, and logistics.
The surrounding region of Saxony-Anhalt is often called the “Land of the Ottonians” for its early medieval heritage. The area is dominated by fertile plains (the Magdeburg Börde) and is a centre for agriculture, especially sugar beet and wheat. To the east lies the Elbe-Brandenburg river landscape, popular for cycling and boating. The nearby Elbe Biosphere Reserve offers scenic nature trails.
People travel to Magdeburg for business, leisure, or to visit friends and family. The city hosts several cultural festivals, including the Magdeburg Christmas Market and the Imperial Palaces Cycle Route. The airfield serves as a convenient entry point for those arriving by private or charter aircraft, avoiding the larger airports in Berlin or Leipzig.
For pilots: The airfield’s PPR (Prior Permission Required) policy may apply – always check in advance. The runway is asphalt, 1,200 metres long, suitable for single-engine piston aircraft and small business jets.
Whether you are arriving for a business meeting in Magdeburg, a scenic flight over the Elbe valley, or a training session, FMB Airfield Magdeburg offers a reliable and accessible gateway to the heart of Saxony-Anhalt.
