Cute little airport. The bar is closed on Saturday afternoon. There is no city bus to get there. It would be nice to have one to the Lorient train station for each arrival/departure. As there are not that many flights, it should not be too hard to organise.
Bad airport, planes are late, not as much flights as I wanted to. Deception
Aeroport de Lorient Bretagne Sud serves the city of Lorient and the wider Brittany region in northwestern France. Located in the commune of Ploemeur, about 5 kilometres west of Lorient city centre, the airport primarily handles domestic flights and seasonal routes to destinations across Europe. It is a modest regional airport catering to both business and leisure travellers, with a single terminal that is compact and straightforward to navigate.
The airport is situated near the Bay of Biscay coast, making it a gateway for visitors to the Morbihan department, known for its historic ports, beaches, and the Gulf of Morbihan. Lorient itself is famous for its maritime heritage, hosting the annual Lorient Interceltic Festival and serving as a base for ocean racing and sailing events.
Aeroport de Lorient Bretagne Sud provides essential facilities to ensure a comfortable passenger experience. The terminal is fully accessible for passengers with reduced mobility, featuring a wheelchair-accessible car park, wheelchair-accessible entrance, and wheelchair-accessible toilet. Standard toilets are also available within the terminal building.
Food and retail options are limited to the basics – a small café or snack bar may be found inside the departures area, but travellers should not expect extensive shopping or dining. For those driving to the airport, the parking area is located directly in front of the terminal, with both short-term and long-term spaces. The car park is wheelchair accessible. There are no dedicated business lounges or VIP areas, but the compact layout means that all facilities are within easy walking distance.
The airport operates during set hours on most days; it is not open 24/7. According to available data, the busiest times at the terminal are around 1 pm and 3 pm, so travellers should allow extra time during these periods for check-in and security. The airport is not open every day; specific daily operating hours can vary, so it is advisable to confirm flight schedules and terminal opening times with your airline or on the airport's website before travelling.
The airport is easily reachable by car via the N165 dual carriageway connecting Lorient to Vannes and Nantes. Taxis and ride-sharing services are available at the terminal, and some local bus lines serve the airport during limited hours. For international visitors, the nearest major hub is Nantes Atlantique Airport, about 150 kilometres to the southeast, but Lorient offers a convenient alternative for those heading directly to southern Brittany.
Lorient Airport plays a key role in connecting Brittany to rest of France and Europe. It primarily handles scheduled flights from airlines such as Air France and Volotea, with year-round services to Paris-Orly and seasonal links to destinations like London Stansted, Marseille, and Figari. The airport also accommodates general aviation traffic, including private planes and business jets. Its proximity to the Lorient Submarine Base and the port means it occasionally handles military or cargo flights as well.
Despite its relatively small size, the airport is an important transport link for the region, especially during the summer months when tourist numbers rise. The terminal is equipped for efficient processing, and the staff are known for being helpful and professional.
