Friendly & efficient as a gateway to France for customs clearance. NB the Patrouille de France just happened to be there
Was here about 4 years ago and there was no food available then as was now. There are a couple of vending machines for food and drink. Otherwise the airport was fine all very relaxed. We had no problems with language and even joked with immigration. Overall it is a small quiet airport and facilities are inline with this.
the old departure hall, the new one is in partial operation, the airport is small but nice
Yailene Rodriguez was very kind and very helpful. She help me with the buying of my new phone and did all the transfer from the old one to the new one. Excellent work ethic Philippe
Deauville – Saint-Gatien Airport lies 7 kilometres northeast of Deauville's seafront, in the commune of Saint-Gatien-des-Bois. It is a regional airport serving the Côte Fleurie, a stretch of Normandy coast known for its beach resorts, horse racing, and cider country. The terminal is small – a single building with one arrivals and one departures hall – and operates on a seasonal schedule, with flights concentrated around summer weekends and major events. The airport handles primarily domestic routes, with connections to London Southend and a handful of other European cities during peak season. Its runway shares space with a general aviation base, so light aircraft and small private jets are a common sight. The tone here is unhurried; security lines rarely exceed ten minutes, and the staff are accustomed to both holidaymakers and business travellers attending the Deauville American Film Festival or the August horse sales.
The airport sits just off the D579, a two-lane road that connects Deauville to Honfleur. Driving from Deauville town centre takes about 10 minutes; from Trouville-sur-Mer, add another five. Parking is directly in front of the terminal – a short-term lot costs €4 per hour (2019 rates), and a long-term lot a few steps away charges €25 per day. Taxis wait outside the arrivals door, but pre-booking is wise during the film festival or August weekends. The fixed fare to Deauville town centre is approximately €20–25. Buses: the airport does not have a dedicated shuttle, but the local line 20 bus (Deauville–Honfleur) stops at a roadside halt a 5-minute walk from the terminal entrance. It runs hourly on weekdays, less often on Sundays. For riders arriving by bicycle, a rack is available near the entrance, though the D579 lacks a dedicated cycle path. A hire car is the most practical option for exploring the region – rental desks from Europcar and Sixt operate inside the terminal during flight times.
The terminal is one open-plan space with high ceilings and large windows that let in natural light. Upon entry, the check-in desks line the left wall; the right side holds a small café selling sandwiches, pastries, and hot drinks. The security checkpoint is immediately past check-in – one lane with a single X-ray machine and metal detector. Wait times are short, but the lane can narrow quickly when two flights depart close together. After security, a small waiting area offers about 80 seats, a charging station with USB ports, and a view of the apron. The toilet facilities include a wheelchair-accessible toilet and a baby changing table in both the men's and women's rooms. There is no duty-free shop, luggage storage, or lounge. The airport is fully wheelchair accessible, with ramps at the entrance, wide corridors, and a designated parking space. Boarding is on foot across the tarmac; there are no jet bridges. The atmosphere is calm, more akin to a regional bus station than a busy air hub – staff are approachable and English is spoken at the information desk.
The airport shares its name with Deauville, but sits in the hamlet of Saint-Gatien-des-Bois, a village of 1,200 residents surrounded by apple orchards, pastures, and half-timbered farmhouses. Saint-Gatien-des-Bois is a typical Norman bourg: a 12th-century church, a war memorial, a weekly market on Wednesday mornings. The region, the Pays d'Auge, is the heart of Normandy's cider and calvados production. Visitors come here for the landscape – rolling green hills crisscrossed by hedgerows – and for the cuisine: Camembert and Livarot cheeses, apple tarts, and duck confit. The airport sits near the 12th-century Château de Saint-Gatien, a private estate not open to the public but visible from the D579. More accessible is the nearby Château de Crèvecoeur, a medieval fortress 15 minutes by car. Deauville itself, 10 minutes away, is the main draw: its iconic boardwalk (Les Planches) with cabanas named after American film stars, the Casino Barrière, and the Deauville-La Touques racecourse. The town also hosts the annual American Film Festival in September and the August horse sales. Honfleur, 20 minutes northwest, offers an old port lined with art galleries and seafood restaurants, made famous by Impressionist painters. The area is best explored by car – the airport's position halfway between Deauville and Honfleur makes a perfect starting point. For walkers, the GR223 coastal path passes near the airport, offering a long-distance route along the cliffs of the Côte Fleurie. Saint-Gatien-des-Bois itself is a quiet village, but its proximity to both the coast and the inland cider route means it attracts visitors who want the countryside without sacrificing access to Deauville's amenities. The airport's modest size means it never overwhelms the local roads or accommodation – the two hotels in the village, both farmhouse conversions, rarely fill outside summer.
The airport is open from 8:00 to 20:00 daily, but hours vary by season. From November to March, flights are reduced, and the terminal may close entirely outside scheduled arrivals. Check the website (http://www.deauville.aeroport.fr/) for the week's timetable. Tel: +33 2 31 65 65 65. Parking is free for the first 15 minutes. There is no ATM inside the terminal, but a cash machine is available at the petrol station 1 km away on the D579. For families, the changing table is clean and stocked, but bring wipes as supplies run low. The café accepts card payments, but for the taxi stand, cash is preferred. One concrete piece of advice: if you are flying out on a Monday (the busiest time, according to schedule data), arrive at least 90 minutes before your flight – the single security line fills quickly, and the café's coffee machine is prone to breaking down after the first rush.
