Homel Airport is a very small and quiet airport, with only a few flights per week. It offers a simple and hassle-free travel experience without the crowds of larger airports. The airport is extremely easy to navigate. The luggage area is just a small 10-meter circular belt, so you get your bags almost immediately. If you're arriving from Russia, there's no border control, which makes the process even quicker. There's a small store for basic snacks or travel essentials, but don't expect much in terms of shopping or dining options. One downside is transportation. Yandex Taxi doesn't always work here, and the local taxi drivers charge more - I paid around 35 BYN for a ride that would have been cheaper with Yandex. Since flights are infrequent (sometimes just one every few days), delays or cancellations could mean a long wait for the next available flight.
It was the first time I felt a blessed and sacred environment, I really liked the place and a sanctuary where you can only feel peace and it is a golden silence, I really hope that in the future this airport can improve and that all the people who go can enjoy and appreciate a future wonderful and beautiful experiences because you can do great things like hotels, restaurants and shopping centers like the greatest airports of the world because Belarus is a great nation.
We flew from Gomel to Antalya on September 24th. There was a woman at check-in who was simply rude. I asked to be seated by the window with a small child, and the only response was rudeness and barking, along the lines of, "We're asking for too much, you're just making a complaint." Wait a minute, it was a REQUEST. And not some complaint. We all understand that people reserve seats online (in advance), and it was simply a REQUEST that if there were seats available, we be seated together by the window. I ask management to pay attention to your employees and the rude conversations. Not many people fly from Gomel to be so rude to people. The woman's name badge wasn't visible; her last name would have been listed.
Homiel Airport (IATA: GME) is a regional airport serving the city of Homiel (also known as Gomel) in southeastern Belarus. It primarily handles domestic flights within Belarus, with a limited number of international connections to destinations such as Kaliningrad and Moscow, typically operated by Belarusian carriers. The airport is used by business travellers visiting the region's industrial centres, as well as leisure passengers heading to nearby nature reserves or exploring the historic city centre. Due to its smaller size, Homiel Airport offers a straightforward and efficient experience, though it does not operate every day – flight schedules are concentrated around peak hours (typically 2 pm and 6 pm). Passengers are advised to confirm flight times in advance and arrive with ample time for check-in and security.
Homiel Airport is located approximately 6 kilometres east of Homiel city centre, near the village of Pribytki. The airport is easily reachable by road, with a dedicated access road connecting to the M10 highway, which links Homiel to the neighbouring cities of Mazyr and Brest. The most convenient way to reach the airport is by taxi or private car; taxis are available from the city centre and the main railway station, with a journey time of about 15–20 minutes. For those driving, the airport offers a wheelchair-accessible car park, ensuring that mobility-impaired passengers can park close to the terminal. Public bus services are limited, but occasional shuttle buses connect the airport to Homiel’s central bus station – schedules are posted on the airport’s website. Given the airport’s modest size, walking from the car park to the terminal is short and straightforward.
Homiel Airport provides essential amenities to meet the needs of travellers. Confirmed facilities include:
Beyond these, the airport offers a modest waiting area and check-in counters. Food and drink options are limited, so it is advisable to bring snacks or purchase refreshments before arriving. There is no duty-free shop or VIP lounge. Mobile connectivity is generally available in the terminal via local networks. For any special assistance, passengers should contact the airline in advance or speak to airport staff upon arrival.
Homiel is the second-largest city in Belarus and the administrative centre of the Homiel Region. The area lies within the Polissya lowlands, a vast flatland of forests, marshes, and rivers. The Sozh River, a tributary of the Dnieper, flows through the city, providing scenic riverbanks and parks. The region is known for its heavy industry – machinery, chemical production, and oil refining are economic mainstays. At the same time, Homiel boasts a rich cultural heritage, with landmarks such as the Gomel Palace Park, a classic 19th-century estate built by the Russian noble family Rumyantsev-Paskevich. The palace and its surrounding parkland are open to visitors and offer a glimpse into Belarusian aristocratic history. Travelers also visit the region for its natural attractions, including the Pripyatsky National Park to the west, home to rare bird species and ancient floodplain forests. While the 1986 Chernobyl disaster affected parts of the region, most areas – including Homiel city – are safe for tourism, and the airport serves as a gateway for both domestic and international visitors exploring southern Belarus.
