Iran Aseman Airlines, designated with IATA code EP and ICAO code IRC, has established itself as a prominent private carrier in the Islamic Republic of Iran since its inception. The airline was founded in 1980 under the name Air Taxi Company, initially operating as a small-scale charter service. In 1985, it was rebranded as Iran Aseman Airlines, with "Aseman" meaning "sky" in Persian. The airline is structured as a public joint-stock company, with ownership distributed among private shareholders and a notable stake held by the Iranian Civil Servants Pension Organization, reflecting a blend of private and quasi-state interests. This ownership model has provided the carrier with stable financial backing while maintaining operational independence within Iran’s competitive aviation market.

The fleet of Iran Aseman Airlines is characterized by a mix of regional turboprop aircraft and narrow-body jets, tailored to serve a network that spans domestic points and select regional destinations. Historically, the carrier operated a diverse array of types, including the Fokker 100, Boeing 737-200 and 737-400, and the ATR 72.
