Very small airport and aircraft, but very interested. One flight per day

Clean enough but it is a small airport with few weekly flights, we cannot expect more.
I fly down to Ca Mau from HCM about five times a year to visit my wife's family. At the moment the airport is closed for one reason or another. Can't find out why even from Vietnam airlines, or when it will open again. I hope sooner than later, as the bus journey between HCM and Ca Mau is eight hours of living hell! I really do not recommend it. When the airfield is open, its very functional and the staff are very friendly for such a rural airport. Even taking live crabs back to HCM in a polystyrene box as unpaid passengers has never been a problem. I have never had an issue using the airport and the flights have always been on schedule. Unlike Heathrow or Gatwick in the UK.
Ca Mau Airport (Cà Mau) serves as the primary air link for the southernmost province of Vietnam, Ca Mau Province. This domestic airport connects the remote Mekong Delta region to Ho Chi Minh City (Tan Son Nhat International Airport) and, at times, other domestic points. The airport is small in scale but plays a crucial role for both residents and visitors who need to access the farthest reaches of the Delta. Travelers often use Ca Mau as a gateway to explore the Ca Mau Cape National Park, the U Minh Thuong National Park, and the intricate network of canals and floating markets that define this water-rich area. The airport is also a practical alternative for those who prefer to avoid long road journeys from Ho Chi Minh City, which can take around six to seven hours by car. Given its limited size, the airport focuses on efficiency and essential services rather than extensive retail or dining options.
Ca Mau Airport is located just 2 kilometers northeast of the center of Ca Mau City, the provincial capital. This close proximity makes it easy to reach the city center within minutes. The most common way to get to and from the airport is by taxi or ride-hailing services such as Grab, which are readily available. Many visitors also arrange private car transfers through their hotels. For those who prefer flexibility, motorbike taxis (xe om) are an inexpensive option. There is no direct public bus service to the airport, but local buses operate within the city and can drop passengers nearby. The airport’s address is on Ly Bon Street, Ward 6, Ca Mau City. Parking is available for private vehicles, including a wheelchair-accessible area. The airport sits in the heart of the Mekong Delta, surrounded by rice paddies and waterways, giving passengers a glimpse of the region’s landscape upon arrival.
As a regional domestic airport, Ca Mau offers a focused set of facilities designed for practicality. All confirmed amenities are centered around accessibility and basic passenger needs:
Note that the airport does not have a large selection of shops, restaurants, or lounges. A small convenience store or snack kiosk may be available, but passengers should not expect extensive duty-free or dining options. It is recommended to bring essentials and snacks, especially if you have a waiting period.
Ca Mau Province occupies the southernmost tip of Vietnam, a land shaped by the Mekong River’s sediment. The region is best known for its expansive mangrove forests, which are part of the Ca Mau Cape National Park (Mũi Cà Mau) – a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. This area is the southernmost point on the Vietnamese mainland, marked by a symbolic monument. The park is a haven for birdwatchers and nature lovers, hosting a variety of waterbirds, migratory species, and the famous Ca Mau Cape Bird Sanctuary. The landscape is crisscrossed by canals, where local life revolves around water transport. Floating markets, such as the one in nearby Cái Nước, offer fresh seafood, fruits, and vegetables. The region is also a major producer of shrimp and fish, with vast aquaculture farms. Visitors often take boat trips through the mangrove channels to experience the serene beauty and spot wildlife like monkeys and otters. The nearby U Minh Thuong National Park features peat swamp forests and is home to rare species like the hairy-nosed otter. The culture of Ca Mau is deeply connected to its rivers and forests, with local cuisine emphasizing fresh seafood, fermented fish sauce (nước mắm), and unique dishes like bánh xèo (crispy pancakes) with shrimp. Travelers who venture to Ca Mau are rewarded with an off-the-beaten-path experience, far from the crowds of Vietnam’s more famous destinations.
