Salisbury is a nice little local airport that is easy to access. However , you must connect thru Charlotte or Philadelphia and the delays and problems with getting out on time and missing my connections has now made this my last flight from Salisbury. We had the first flight out in the a.m. 9-24 and get on the runway and the pilot announces he has a brake problem and we have to return to the gate. Mind you nobody wants to travel with a safety issue. But, no pre-flight check prior to loading passengers and bags to the aircraft ? I will be making the drive to Baltimore or Philadelphia EVERY time moving forward.
We arrived at 5:00 am for a 6:36am flight American Airlines counter wasn't even opened yet. We waited when people started going through TSA, we went to the AA counter got to the desk first thing out of their mouth was I hope you are not here to check your bag; You're too late its already cutoff. The man at the counter was RUDE.. actually, beyond rudeness!! Basically, I felt like well it sucks to be you. Told us we could leave our bag and fly. I do even live in the state of MD We missed the window of check in bags by 3 minutes and was told the system shuts down nothing they can do. We were obviously very upset asking why the plane is still here there are still people going through TSA, our friend who didn't have a checked bag hadn't even gotten her bag red tagged for underneath plane. I feel like it's a power trip for the guy taking luggage. I asked, "okay what other options do we have". he smirked and stated, "waitlist for 4:30 pm flight or leave your luggage". Wow, you are very helpful!!! He turned and left the young lady who by the way was trying to help us, he could take some lessons from her. He walked away with such an attitude we didn't deserve!! Definitely needs customer service training!!! Long story short we were denied to board because we were not allowed to board even though we did our check in and bag check in 24 hours ahead of time online but didn't matter because of SBY rule. Which by the way I spoke AA and airports can choose their policy on check bag- well SBY you are NOT customer friendly!! We fly out of small airport in IL (which is larger than SBY) where they actually help people I have arrived 30 minutes with my check in bag and it's never ever been a problem!!! They print my luggage bag ticket without any issues. Do better, treat people kindly and DO NOT Leave them stranded. We had to get a rental car and drive to another airport so, a day of flying to get home that should have been 8-hour day tuned into 17 hours later to get home - Also, none of the car rentals are open until 11 am at SBY airport not helpful when you are denying passengers to fly. So, we had to find one that opened at 8 am, which we booked at 6:30 am which was before our flight was supposed to even leave SBY, then we had to call an Uber to go get a rental car. So, beware SBY airport is poorly managed!!!! I hope this review helps you be better at customer service and review your policies.
Airport that services the Delaware beach areas and Salisbury Maryland. Small, efficient, sparse, the restrooms are clean, the operations are simple. The problem is there is no food service just vending machines. Often we rush to get to the airport only to be left with no real way to satisfy hunger. Not even coffee! The parking is $8 a day! I pay that in Philadelphia. Many opt for the less traffic hassle and convenience. I get that. Sometimes simple is better.
Great airport. Small, friendly, convenient, and professional. It is also very affordable. I highly recommend looking into this as a travel option. Located in the center of the Delmarva peninsula, it's only a couple hours from Philly or DC without all the crowded terminal hassel.
Salisbury Regional Airport (IATA: SBY) is a small regional airport serving the city of Salisbury, Maryland, and the broader lower Eastern Shore region of Delmarva. The airport handles a mix of commercial scheduled flights, general aviation, medical transport, and charter operations. It acts as a convenient gateway for leisure travelers heading to Ocean City and nearby Atlantic coast beaches, as well as for business travelers and visitors to Salisbury University and the region's healthcare facilities. While the airport is modest in size, its role is vital for providing air connectivity to a part of the country that is otherwise served by longer drives to larger hubs.
Commercial service at Salisbury Regional is provided by regional airlines that connect to major airline hubs, allowing passengers to reach destinations across the United States and beyond. The airport also sees significant general aviation traffic, including private aircraft, flight training, and corporate jets. As a reliever airport for the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area, it helps accommodate traffic that might otherwise congest larger airports.
Salisbury Regional Airport is located approximately five miles east of downtown Salisbury, Maryland, on the Delmarva Peninsula. The airport is easily accessible via US Route 50 and US Route 13, two major highways that traverse the region. From the north (Wilmington, Delaware) or south (Norfolk, Virginia), drivers can reach the airport via US 13 and then exit onto Airport Terminal Road. Travelers coming from the west via US 50 will find the airport clearly signposted.
For those visiting Ocean City, the drive from the airport to the beach takes about 30–40 minutes (roughly 30 miles) via US 50 east. The airport is also within a comfortable driving distance of other Eastern Shore destinations such as Cambridge, Easton, and the Chincoteague-Assateague area. Parking at the airport is available in a paid parking lot located directly in front of the terminal. The lot is well-lit and monitored. Rental car companies operate from the terminal, and taxis and ride-sharing services are generally available on demand. Public transit options are limited; the local Shore Transit bus service does not directly serve the airport terminal, so a car or taxi is the most practical option for ground transportation.
The airport's location places it at the center of the Delmarva Peninsula, making it a convenient hub for travelers to both Maryland and nearby Delaware and Virginia coastal areas.
Salisbury Regional Airport offers essential amenities to ensure a comfortable experience for passengers. The following facilities are confirmed:
Additional typical services, such as a small café or vending machines, may be present but are not confirmed in the available data. The terminal building is compact, with a waiting area, ticket counters, and baggage claim. Passengers should plan accordingly given the limited food and retail options.
Salisbury sits on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, a region defined by its flat coastal plains, tidal rivers, and agricultural landscape. The area is known for chicken farming (Perdue Farms is headquartered in Salisbury), as well as tourism centered on the Atlantic Ocean beaches, particularly Ocean City, which is a major summer destination. The region also offers historic towns such as St. Michaels and Cambridge, outdoor recreation at Assateague Island National Seashore (famous for its wild ponies), and water-based activities like fishing, boating, and crabbing.
Salisbury itself is the commercial and cultural hub of the lower Eastern Shore. The city is home to Salisbury University and a regional medical center, making the airport important for university-related travel and medical transfers. The surrounding area also attracts visitors for events such as the National Hard Crab Derby and the Delmarva Chicken Festival. The airport serves as the primary air link for this region, connecting residents and visitors to the national air transportation system.
For flight information, parking rates, and other inquiries, the airport staff can be reached by phone during business hours. The website also provides links to airline booking, car rental reservations, and a real-time flight status board. Travelers should plan to arrive at least one hour before domestic departures to allow for parking, check-in, and security screening. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) operates the security checkpoint; passengers should review current prohibited items rules beforehand.
Salisbury Regional Airport may be small, but it offers a stress-free alternative to larger airports for those traveling to or from the Eastern Shore. Its convenient location, essential amenities, and regional connectivity make it a practical choice for both business and leisure travelers.
