Very small, clean, and quiet airport. The atmosphere is so calm and peaceful -- no crowds, no chaos, just an easy and smooth experience from start to finish. A great little airport if you prefer a stress-free travel day!
Thank you for flying with us and leaving such a kind review!
The airport is the smallest I have visited. Somehow, our checked bag was delayed due to the military members got priority for their items. The United Airlines staff was very helpful, they put down our information and will inform us when our luggage arrived. We were lucky enough our bag arrival at 10:45pm the same night. When we noticed the phone message, it was 11:15pm, we called the airlines to arrange the pickup, the airport staff were so kind and stayed late to wait for us. End up we arrive at the airport at 11:45pm. Thank you to the staff of Meridian Regional Airport for waiting for us.
My hubby and I and brother -in law Jay came here to pick up my mother in law sister in law and my husband's two cousins that came in from Albuquerque. It's a really cute airport that offers free coffee and slushy Also alot of history at this airport enjoy the pictures
We landed for fuel on a flight from Oklahoma to Florida and were very pleased with this airport. The tower staff were very friendly, helpful, and professional. He was actually funny as it wasn't a busy day when we landed. The runways are great and large enough for about any plane. We were able to land, get fuel, stretch our legs, spend some time at the FBO and get back in the air pretty quickly. We will definitely put this place on our must stop when flying through the area and would highly recommend them.
Thanks for the review! We're so glad you had a great experience at our airport.
Meridian Regional Airport (MEI) is located on the east side of Meridian, Mississippi, about 6 kilometres from the city centre. The airport serves as the primary commercial aviation facility for the Meridian metropolitan area, a city of roughly 40,000 residents that anchors the east-central part of the state. With a single runway and a compact terminal building, MEI handles a modest but steady flow of passengers connecting through larger hubs. The airport is owned and operated by the Meridian Airport Authority, and its role in the region’s transportation network is straightforward: get people in and out of the area efficiently, without the crowds and delays common at major airports.
Meridian Regional Airport sits at 4000 Highway 11 South, easily accessible from both Interstate 20 and Interstate 59. From downtown Meridian, the drive takes about 10 minutes via US-11 South. The airport’s parking lot is directly in front of the terminal, with designated accessible spaces and a paid parking system. Rates are modest compared to larger airports — expect to pay around $5 per day, though exact fees can be confirmed on the airport’s website. For those without a car, taxis and rideshare services (Uber and Lyft) operate in Meridian, but availability can be inconsistent. Local taxi companies like City Cab (601-693-7373) require advance booking. There is no direct public transit from the terminal; the Meridian Transit System bus routes do not reach the airport. Rental car services are available on-site from major agencies; it is wise to reserve ahead, especially during peak hours.
The busiest travel times at MEI are Monday at 1 pm, Tuesday at 8 am, Wednesday at 12 pm, and Thursday at 1 pm. If your flight falls near these windows, add extra time for check-in and security.
The terminal at Meridian Regional Airport is a single-story building designed for efficiency. Upon entering, passengers find a small ticketing lobby on the left and a security checkpoint straight ahead. The facility is wheelchair-accessible throughout, with a designated wheelchair-accessible entrance, car park spaces, and toilets. The airport offers Wi-Fi — free and reasonably reliable for basic browsing — as well as on-site services including a snack bar near the departure lounge (hours may vary). Restrooms are clean but limited; there is one set near the gate area.
The departure lounge has seating for about 50 passengers, with a view of the runway. There are no jet bridges; passengers walk across the tarmac to board small regional aircraft. Security screening is handled by TSA; lines are typically short, but during the busiest periods (Monday early afternoon, Tuesday morning) waits can reach 10 to 15 minutes. The airport operates on a limited schedule — it is not open 24 hours. The terminal doors open roughly two hours before the first departure and close after the last arrival. If you arrive early, you may have to wait outside or in your car.
Baggage claim is located just past the security exit, a single carousel that also serves for arrivals. The airport has no lounges, duty-free shops, or extensive dining options. Plan to bring snacks or eat before arriving.
Meridian itself is a city with a layered history. It emerged as a railroad hub in the 19th century, linking the Gulf Coast to the interior, and that transportation heritage is still visible in the downtown area’s brick streets and historic depots. The city was a significant site during the Civil War and later became a centre for manufacturing and military training. Today, Meridian is home to the Naval Air Station Meridian, a major training base for the US Navy, and the airport sees a fair share of military-related travel.
For visitors, Meridian offers several attractions within a short drive of the airport. The Mississippi Arts + Entertainment Experience (The MAX) downtown showcases the state’s cultural contributions, from music to literature. The Meridian Museum of Art, housed in a former Carnegie library, features regional works. History enthusiasts can explore the Meridian Civil War Trail or the Dentzel Carousel at Highland Park — one of the oldest operating carousels in the United States. The city also has a lively local food scene, with barbecue, soul food, and catfish restaurants that reflect the region’s culinary traditions.
Beyond the city, the surrounding area is rural and forested, with opportunities for hunting, fishing, and outdoor recreation at parks like Bonita Lakes. The airport serves as a gateway for travellers headed to the Mississippi Gulf Coast (about 2 hours south) or to nearby Alabama cities like Tuscaloosa (90 minutes east).
Understanding Meridian’s character helps frame the airport experience. MEI is not a destination in itself; it is a tool for getting to and from a place that rewards those who take time to explore. The airport’s modest scale matches the pace of the region — unhurried, friendly, and functional.
Meridian Regional Airport is not open all day. Hours vary based on flight schedules; generally, the terminal opens two hours before the first departure and closes after the last arrival. Commercial service is primarily on Delta Connection (operated by SkyWest) with multiple daily flights to Atlanta (ATL). Check the airport’s website at http://www.meridianairport.com/ for current flight times and parking fees. The airport can be reached by phone at +1 769-760-6037 for general inquiries.
Parking is paid but inexpensive; credit cards are accepted at the pay station. The Wi-Fi network is free and does not require a password. There is no ATM inside the terminal, so bring cash if needed for snacks or taxis. For those with mobility needs, the airport is fully accessible, and staff can assist with boarding via ramp.
One piece of concrete advice: Because Meridian’s airport closes between flights, time your arrival so that you arrive no more than 90 minutes before departure. Showing up three hours early may mean waiting outside a locked terminal.
