I'd give 5 stars but it takes me longer to fill up my water bottle at the water jug than it does for me to go through security. Please invest in a water fountain. I'm gunna have to start waking up earlier so I can fill it and make the 6am flight.
Please update your website to reflect when the check-in window actually closes. I arrived 43 minutes early to GTR but was unable to check bags due to the check-in counter closing 45 minutes prior to plane departure. There was a sign a the desk that stated this change, but I did not see this information online before arriving at the airport. I have attached the screen shot of the GTR website that says the counter closes 30 minutes prior to departure. I should not have to check a Facebook page to actually get critical updates for my travel. A simple text message could fix this issue. Not sure if this is a GTR issue or a Delta issue, but I believe it is an issue. I understand that rules change but notification of rules changes PRIOR to arrival at the airport would be nice. GTR can do better to take care of local customers
Thank you for letting us know.
rented a car was late for pickup at Enterprise the guy waited till i got there. took care of me before closing shop
This airport is absolutely tiny. So small in fact that there is not mu h to say about it - the brought a ramp to the plane, we got off on the tarmac, walked inside, directly to the one baggage claim Conveyer, walked out the side exit to the rental cars, grabbed our car, and went. No restaurants inside (that I saw), no shopping... didn't even see a big tsa security checkpoint. Just a place to get on and off planes.
Golden Triangle Regional Airport (IATA: GTR) serves as the primary air gateway for the Golden Triangle region of Mississippi, an area anchored by the cities of Columbus, Starkville, and West Point. This regional airport handles scheduled commercial flights, general aviation, and military traffic associated with nearby Columbus Air Force Base. The airport is a vital link for business travelers visiting the area’s growing aerospace and manufacturing sectors, as well as for passengers associated with Mississippi State University in Starkville. Flight connectivity is primarily provided by major carriers such as Delta Air Lines, offering multiple daily nonstop flights to Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson, with convenient connections to destinations worldwide. Charter and cargo operations also contribute to the airport’s traffic. Despite its modest scale, GTR offers a streamlined, efficient travel experience with minimal wait times.
Golden Triangle Regional Airport is situated approximately 10 miles northeast of downtown Columbus, Mississippi, off Highway 45. It also serves Starkville (about 15 miles west) and West Point (roughly 10 miles south), making it easily accessible from the entire region. The airport’s address is 1100 Airport Road, Columbus, MS 39701. Access is straightforward from the major highways, and the airport is a popular alternative to larger hubs like Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport (about 150 miles west) for those living in the northeastern part of the state. Parking is directly adjacent to the terminal, with both free and paid lots available—a convenience many regional airports cannot offer. Rental car services are available on-site from national agencies, and ride-sharing and taxi services also serve the airport.
Golden Triangle Regional Airport provides a range of essential amenities designed to ensure accessibility and comfort for all passengers. The terminal includes a wheelchair-accessible car park, entrance, and restrooms, making it easy for travelers with mobility challenges. Restrooms are equipped with changing tables, useful for families traveling with infants. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available throughout the terminal building, allowing passengers to stay connected while waiting. The airport’s small size means services are compact, but a waiting area with seating is provided. For those driving to the airport, both free parking lots and paid parking options are available. The free lot offers ample space for long-term parking at no charge, while the paid lot may be closer to the terminal for those seeking added convenience. Note that the airport does not have a dedicated restaurant or café, but vending machines are typically available for light refreshments. Passengers should plan accordingly, especially if they have dietary needs or prefer to bring snacks.
Columbus is one of the oldest cities in Mississippi and sits along the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway. The broader Golden Triangle region is known for its strong agricultural heritage, particularly cotton and soybean farming, and has increasingly diversified into advanced manufacturing. Major employers include Aurora Flight Sciences (a Boeing subsidiary), Airbus Helicopters, and various automotive suppliers. The presence of Mississippi State University (MSU) in nearby Starkville brings a steady flow of academic, sports, and research-related travel, notably for events at Davis Wade Stadium and the university’s extensive agricultural and engineering programs. The area also has historical attractions, such as the antebellum homes in Columbus, and outdoor recreation opportunities on the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway and surrounding lakes. The airport’s convenient location makes it a preferred entry point for both business and leisure travelers exploring this dynamic part of Mississippi.
The airport terminal is not open 24 hours a day; it operates according to the scheduled flight times. It is advisable to arrive at least 90 minutes before your domestic flight departure to allow ample time for parking, check-in, and security. Peak travel periods are typically around 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM, so those times may see slightly higher passenger volume. For the most current information on flight schedules and any special updates, travelers should visit the official airport website at http://www.gtra.com/ or call +1 662-327-4422. The airport provides valet and regular parking options; the free lot is ideal for longer stays. As with any smaller airport, services may be limited, but the staff are known for their friendliness and efficiency, making the departure and arrival process straightforward.
