Great place for flight lessons and casual hiring of small planes and helicopters for a tour or London and flying lessons. Need to be wary of altitude permitted due to proximity to Heathrow and other surrounding airport. Great cafe onsite and very friendly staff.
Small cafe and table area fenced from the airfield, but you can still see the planes and helicopters. The parking is next to a little farm, you can interact with some lovely horses.
Basic menu but very nice. British cuisine. See Cessna take off and land. Very pleasant. Indoor and outdoor sitting. Very nice couple with home made food. Worth a visit and free parking. Once on the lane go right to the end and follow the signs.
I'm a big fan of Denham Airfield - pilot centre and HQ Aviation . Great training centre with good staff and facilities! Staff here are passionate about flying! You can enjoy a nice breakfast/lunch in crew room cafe and enjoy the great view of flights and helicopters buzzing around! Simply a spectacular experience!
Denham Aerodrome is a small general aviation airfield located near Uxbridge in Buckinghamshire, just northwest of London. Unlike major international airports, Denham serves the private and recreational flying community. It is primarily used for flight training, aircraft maintenance, business aviation, and private pilots. The airfield features a single grass runway, which is typical for many small aerodromes in the UK. It is home to several flying clubs and schools, making it a busy hub for student pilots and experienced aviators alike. Denham also handles aircraft charter and occasional corporate flights. The aerodrome has been operating for decades and is one of the few grass airfields still active in the Greater London area, offering a more traditional flying experience.
Denham Aerodrome is situated approximately 20 miles northwest of central London, close to the towns of Uxbridge and Gerrards Cross. Its official address is Denham Aerodrome, Tilehouse Lane, Denham, Uxbridge, UB9 5DE. The airfield is easily accessible by road, lying near the junction of the M40 and M25 motorways, which connect to London and the surrounding counties. From the M40, take junction 3 or 4, then follow signs to Denham. There is limited public transport directly to the aerodrome; the nearest railway stations are Denham Golf Club and Denham, both about 2 miles away, with services on the Chiltern Main Line to London Marylebone. Local buses from Uxbridge town centre also serve the area, but a car or taxi is the most convenient option. On-site parking is available, including a wheelchair-accessible car park.
As a small airfield, Denham Aerodrome offers essential facilities for passengers and visitors. The confirmed amenities include a wheelchair-accessible car park, wheelchair-accessible entrance, and wheelchair-accessible toilet, ensuring basic accessibility. There is also a standard toilet for all users. The main building houses a small reception area and a pilot lounge. Flight school offices and briefings rooms are present. However, there are no restaurants, cafes, shops, or duty-free services on site; travellers should bring their own refreshments if needed. The airfield operates a self-service fuel pump for pilots. For inquiries, contact the airfield office via phone +44 1895 832161 or visit the website http://www.egld.com/.
Denham Aerodrome is set in the picturesque Chiltern Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The surrounding countryside is characterised by rolling hills, ancient woodlands, and charming villages. The nearby town of Uxbridge is a major suburban centre with a large shopping district, restaurants, and Brunel University. The Colne Valley Regional Park, with its canals and green spaces, is ideal for walking and cycling. The region has a rich aviation history, with several other general aviation airfields nearby, including Northolt and White Waltham. Visitors to Denham often come for leisure flights, flying lessons, or to attend local airshows and events. The airfield’s location makes it a convenient base for exploring the Chilterns or for quick trips into London via the M40.
Denham Aerodrome is not open every day; it operates on a part-time schedule, with peak hours reported at 7 pm and 8 pm, likely aligning with evening flight training sessions. It is advisable to check the website or call ahead before visiting to confirm opening times, especially for passenger arrivals or departures. The phone number is +44 1895 832161, and the website http://www.egld.com/ provides further details, including weather conditions and operational updates. The airfield has no customs or passport control, as it handles only domestic and general aviation traffic. Security is minimal, typical of small airfields. If you are flying in as a passenger, arrange transport from the terminal building to your final destination in advance, as taxi services may need to be pre-booked. Overall, Denham Aerodrome offers a straightforward experience for those who value a more intimate and classic aviation setting.
