Busiest on Mondays around 9 pm — usually busy.
The only airline that flies here that I know so far is Airswift. The staff told me that for the time being, AirSWIFT will only have Clark to Tablas flights and vice versa. The airport is small. Expect your usual porters offering to help but for a fee. We were expecting a van that can bring people to San Agustin Port but I am told this is not consistent. We arrived by 9am and the van (if it even arrives) might be available by 10am. The police helped us get a trike to bring us to the port but expect that it's on the expensive side. We paid P1000 or about $25 for renting the whole trike. The trip from Tablas Airport to San Agustin Port is about 45 minutes (no traffic and in good weather). Public transportation outside the airport is hard to come by.
Welcome to romblon airport
Airport employees are available only during flight schedule hahaha! :) Also, there is lechon for sale near the airport building everytime there is flight schedule only. Tastes good :)
Every other facility are great but the waiting area is terrible.
Sablayan Airport (IATA: none, ICAO: none) is a small domestic airstrip serving the municipality of Sablayan in the province of Occidental Mindoro, Philippines. It is one of several secondary airports in the region, primarily used by general aviation and chartered flights rather than scheduled commercial airlines. The airport caters to tourists heading to the popular diving destination of Pandan Island and the nearby Apo Reef Natural Park, as well as to locals requiring air transport to and from the remote coastal communities of Occidental Mindoro. Given its size and limited infrastructure, Sablayan Airport is best suited for travellers who value proximity over convenience; it offers a direct access point to the western coast of Mindoro without needing to take the longer land journey from San Jose or Puerto Galera.
Sablayan Airport is located approximately 4 kilometres southeast of the town proper, along the western coast of Mindoro Island. The airport sits near the shoreline, with the South China Sea visible from the runway’s western end. The nearest major city is San Jose (about 70 km south), which has a larger airport with more frequent flights. To reach Sablayan town centre, travellers can take a tricycle or jeepney from the airport terminal; the trip takes roughly 10–15 minutes. For longer journeys to Pandan Island or other coastal resorts, tricycles and private vans can be arranged in advance. The airport is also a convenient base for trips to the Apo Reef Marine Park, which lies about 30 km offshore and can be reached by boat from Sablayan port.
Sablayan Airport offers basic amenities suited for a small domestic terminal. Confirmed facilities include a wheelchair-accessible car park, a wheelchair-accessible entrance, and wheelchair-accessible toilets. Standard toilets are also available. Note that the airport does not have food outlets or shops inside the terminal; passengers should bring their own snacks or purchase supplies in Sablayan town before heading to the airport. There is no air-conditioned waiting area, so dress appropriately for the tropical climate. The airport operates with minimal staffing, focusing on safety and essential passenger services. As of this writing, there are no ATMs, currency exchange counters, or baggage wrapping services.
Sablayan serves as the gateway to some of the Philippines’ most pristine marine environments. The town itself is situated on the west coast of Mindoro, facing the South China Sea. The region is renowned for its exceptional diving and snorkelling sites, particularly at Pandan Island and Apo Reef. Apo Reef is the second-largest contiguous coral reef system in the world and a protected marine park; it attracts divers from around the globe. The coast around Sablayan also features mangroves, white-sand beaches, and small islets. Inland, the landscape rises to the rugged mountains of the Mindoro interior, home to the Mangyan indigenous communities. Visitors come for eco-tourism, diving, and a laid-back, off-the-beaten-path experience away from the crowded beaches of Boracay or Palawan.
Sablayan Airport does not have a public phone number or official website at present. It is not open 24 hours a day; operations are typically limited to daylight hours, with peak activity reportedly around 9 pm and 10 pm (likely for chartered flights arriving late). Passengers should confirm flight schedules with their operator in advance, as unscheduled delays are possible. The airport has no custom facilities and is strictly for domestic traffic. Given the limited facilities, travellers are advised to plan ahead: bring water, snacks, and necessary supplies. For onward travel, arrange transportation before arrival, as tricycles may not always be waiting for every flight. The nearest alternative airport is San Jose Airport (SJI), which offers scheduled commercial flights from Manila with Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific.
Overall, Sablayan Airport is a functional but no-frills entry point to one of the Philippines’ most rewarding natural regions. Plan accordingly, and the journey will be well worth it.
