Busiest on Mondays around 11 am — usually a little busy.
I fly through this airport many times, and always have a good experience. The staff are very kind and very willing to help. As a student, I once had some issues with my luggage, but they kindly helped me in the best way possible. The airport itself is small and easy to navigate, which means going through controls is fast.
Very small airport with only 2 airlines as of now. Ryanair & Corendon... is that small. But they have a lot of controls so I won't recommend to come last minute. I came in bus in line 30 and it left me right in front of the airport, after all pretty easy and only 5.60 euros from the Maastricht train station. Coffee pretty weak for the price (3.75 for a Capuccino) and there is food available. I was there at 8AM and the one food place was fully open.
Small fast , security reading even my power bank mAh but all good
I thought I should come 3 hours before my flight to be able to go through security and check-in.... The airport doors are closed and we are waiting outside in some sort of tent. That's very customer oriented I guess. The terminal only opens 2 hours before the first outbound flight
Maastricht Aachen Airport (MST) is a compact international airport located in the southern Netherlands, near the borders with Belgium and Germany. It serves as a key gateway for the Euregio Meuse-Rhine, a cross-border region encompassing Maastricht in the Netherlands, Aachen in Germany, and Liège in Belgium. Primarily handling European low-cost and leisure flights, the airport is popular with tourists visiting the historic city of Maastricht, the Limburg countryside, and the nearby German and Belgian cities. Cargo operations also play a significant role here, but for passengers, it offers a stress-free alternative to larger hubs like Amsterdam Schiphol or Düsseldorf.
Maastricht Aachen Airport sits about 8 kilometres (5 miles) northeast of Maastricht city centre, in the municipality of Beek. Its name reflects its position between the Dutch city of Maastricht and the German city of Aachen (approximately 30 kilometres away). The airport is also roughly 40 kilometres from Liège, Belgium, making it a trinational transport node.
The airport is easily reached via the A2 motorway, which connects Maastricht with Eindhoven and Amsterdam. For those heading to Aachen or Liège, the A76 (towards Germany) and the E25 (towards Belgium) provide direct links. Parking options are available on-site, including short-term and long-term car parks, some wheelchair-accessible.
Bus services connect the airport to Maastricht’s central station and other regional hubs. The line L1 (Arriva) runs frequently between Maastricht Station and the airport, with journey times around 30 minutes. For connections to Belgium or Germany, travellers may need to transfer in Maastricht or use a combination of buses and trains. The nearest international train stations are Maastricht (Dutch railways) and Aachen Hauptbahnhof (German railways), both about a 30-minute drive away. Taxis and ride-shares are also available at the terminal.
Maastricht Aachen Airport offers a relatively modest but functional range of amenities to serve its passengers:
Given the airport’s size, queues are typically short, though peak hours around 12 pm and 1 pm may see slightly busier check-in and security lines. Most facilities are located in the single terminal building, easy to navigate on foot.
The area surrounding Maastricht Aachen Airport is rich in history, culture, and natural beauty. The Euregio Meuse-Rhine is known for its hilly landscapes (unusual for the Netherlands), with the Limburg hills, forests, and the Meuse River valley. Maastricht itself is one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands, famous for its medieval architecture, cobblestone streets, and the Treaty of Maastricht (1992) which established the European Union. The city is also a culinary hotspot, with many Michelin-starred restaurants and the local specialty, Limburgse vlaai (fruit tart).
To the east, Aachen (Germany) offers the historic Aachen Cathedral (a UNESCO World Heritage site) and the Carolus Thermal Baths. The German city is known for its connection to Charlemagne and its spa culture. To the west, Liège (Belgium) boasts a lively city centre, the Liège-Guillemins railway station (designed by Santiago Calatrava), and a strong industrial heritage. The region is also popular for outdoor activities like cycling, hiking, and canoeing, with the Maas (Meuse) river offering scenic routes. Cross-border shopping is another draw, as the area combines Dutch, German, and Belgian products and tax policies.
Whether you are flying into the heart of Limburg for a city break, a business trip, or onward connections to Belgium or Germany, Maastricht Aachen Airport offers a straightforward and comfortable entry point to this distinctive European region.
