Busiest on Mondays around 2 pm — usually a little busy.

Nice small airport. No restaurant but small cafe place and small suvenier shop
I had my bag within 10 minutes of landing and there was plenty of taxi drivers to take me in to Tulear...
The porters are scammers. They seemed to collude with the taxi driver. Upon arrival, the porters held a sign with the name we gave to the hotel. The hotel gave the name to the taxi driver. The taxi driver gave the name to the porters. We thought the porter holding the sign was the taxi driver. They proceeded to insist on taking our extremely lite weight bags to the taxi. We had no idea that they were not affiliated with the hotel and taxi. They pressed us for several minutes for money after they ran that scam.
Aeroport de Tulear, also known as Toliara Airport (IATA: TLE), is a regional airport serving the city of Toliara and the surrounding Atsimo-Andrefana region in southwestern Madagascar. It is a key gateway for travellers heading to the coastal areas, including the popular tourist destinations of Ifaty and Anakao, as well as the spiny forests and limestone formations of the region. The airport primarily handles domestic flights, connecting Toliara to the capital Antananarivo with regular services operated by Madagascar Airlines. While international flights are rare, the airport sometimes receives charter flights from nearby Indian Ocean islands. The single terminal is modest in size, reflecting the airport's role as a secondary hub in Madagascar's aviation network.
Toliara Airport is a small facility with limited amenities, but essential services are available for passengers. The airport features wheelchair-accessible facilities, including a dedicated car park, an accessible entrance, and wheelchair-accessible toilets. Standard toilets are also available for all passengers. There are no confirmed food and beverage outlets or duty-free shops within the terminal, though basic snacks and drinks may occasionally be sold by vendors near the check-in area. Passengers are advised to bring their own refreshments, especially for longer waits. Wi-Fi is not confirmed, and there is no business lounge or banking services like ATMs or currency exchange within the airport. The nearest banking facilities are in Toliara city centre, about 5 kilometres away. Car rental desks are not consistently available on-site; it is best to arrange transfers or rental vehicles in advance through hotels or local agencies.
The airport is not open every day of the week. Scheduled flight operations are concentrated on certain days, with peak activity typically observed around 1 pm and 2 pm. Passengers should verify their flight schedule with their airline and plan to arrive at least one to two hours before departure. Given the limited operating hours, the terminal may be closed or unattended outside of these periods. The airport is located approximately 5 kilometres southeast of Toliara city centre, along Route Nationale 7. Taxis and private transfers are the most reliable transportation options, as public bus services are infrequent. The car park is small but wheelchair-accessible. For departures, check-in counters open shortly before flight times, so arriving too early may mean waiting outside the terminal.
There is no official website or direct phone number listed for Toliara Airport. For flight information and bookings, travellers should contact Madagascar Airlines directly or their travel agent. The airport's general enquiries can be directed through the Civil Aviation Authority of Madagascar, but response times may be slow. Most information about schedules and operations is best obtained from airline representatives at the airport on the day of travel.
Toliara itself is a laid-back coastal city known for its beaches, seafood, and the nearby Arboretum d'Antsokay, a botanical garden featuring endemic plants. The airport's location makes it a convenient starting point for exploring the southwest, including the renowned baobab trees at the Avenue of the Baobabs (a longer drive north) and the Ifaty marine reserve. Taxis from the airport to the city centre typically cost a fixed rate that should be negotiated before the journey. Many hotels in Toliara offer airport transfer services for a fee. For those self-driving, the airport is accessible via a paved road, and parking is free but limited.
