Busiest on Mondays around 11 pm — usually as busy as it gets.
No wifi and far from the city, it's not the best entry point, as taxis will overcharge tourists. On the plus side, there is a feeless atm and a money exchange right next to it, but they are post located past the taxi drivers.
Arrival: Old Airport, two gates, two baggage claims, small crowded bathroom, 3300 tenge on Yandex to get to far side of the city. Departure: There is free Wi-Fi but you need a local phone number. There's a money exchange but of course the rates aren't very good. You can get Azerbaijan money if you're headed to Baku. There's a cafe but you'll need Google translate cuz it's all in Russian. Clean bathrooms are available. Not many places to sit. Coffee machines too. If you are flying on FlyArystan you can self check in on the machines on the second floor for domestic flights.
Average airport, limited facilities, restaurants and shopping. Friendly staff, restrooms could improve cleaning. Not far off from Aktau, about 30km, taxis available. Enjoy Aktau
It's an International Airport which is in conjunction with the Air force station i guess. We had our Technical stop at Aktau while going to London. Doesn't seem like much at first in the middle of the desert beach nearby a bit on the outside of the city.
Aktau Airport (IATA: SCO) is an international airport serving the city of Aktau, the capital of the Mangystau Region in western Kazakhstan. Situated on the eastern shore of the Caspian Sea, the airport plays a vital role in connecting this resource-rich region to domestic and international destinations. Aktau is a major hub for Kazakhstan's oil and gas industry, and the airport handles a mix of scheduled passenger flights, charter services, and cargo operations. The airport's location makes it a key transit point for travellers heading to and from the Caspian Sea area, including tourists visiting the nearby beaches and the unique natural landscapes of the Mangystau Peninsula.
Aktau Airport is equipped with a range of facilities designed to accommodate passengers with various needs. The terminal is wheelchair-accessible, featuring a wheelchair-accessible car park, entrance, and toilet facilities. This ensures ease of movement for passengers with reduced mobility or those travelling with small children. The airport also provides a dedicated changing table for infants, making it more convenient for families.
For travellers needing to store luggage, baggage storage services are available, allowing you to explore the city or wait for a flight without carrying heavy bags. Standard toilet facilities are present throughout the terminal, and the airport maintains cleanliness in these areas.
It is worth noting that the airport has been confirmed to offer these specific amenities: wheelchair-accessible car park, wheelchair-accessible entrance, wheelchair-accessible toilet, baggage storage, toilets, and a changing table. Other services such as shops, restaurants, or lounges may be available but are not confirmed in the current data. Travellers requiring additional assistance or specific services are advised to contact the airport directly.
Aktau Airport does not operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The data indicates peak hours occur at 10 PM and 11 PM, suggesting the airport is busiest during the late evening. This timing likely aligns with the arrival and departure of international flights. The airport is not open all days, meaning it may close for certain periods or have reduced hours on some days. Passengers should verify the current schedule with their airline or the airport's official website before planning their arrival or departure.
If you have a flight during non-peak hours, be prepared for potential closures or limited services. It is especially important to check flight times and airport opening hours if you have a late-night or early-morning departure.

The website provides up-to-date information on flight schedules, services, and any changes to operating hours. Calling the airport directly is recommended for urgent questions or special assistance requests.
Aktau Airport's importance extends beyond passenger travel. It serves as a critical link for the Mangystau Region, which is a center for oil extraction, uranium mining, and other industrial activities. The airport also supports tourism to the Caspian Sea coast and the nearby Karagiye Depression, one of the deepest depressions in Kazakhstan. Additionally, the airport handles cargo flights, facilitating trade and supply chains for the region's industries.
The terminal is relatively modern and has undergone renovations in recent years to accommodate growing passenger traffic. While the airport is not among the largest in Kazakhstan, it provides essential connectivity for both business and leisure travellers. Its international status allows flights to destinations in Russia, Turkey, the Caucasus, and other Central Asian countries.
Given the peak hours around 10 PM and 11 PM, consider arriving at the airport well in advance if your flight is scheduled during this busy period. Security and check-in lines may be longer. Since the airport is not open all days, confirm your flight's departure date is within the airport's active operating days. Also, note that the airport lacks some common amenities such as a dedicated prayer room or free Wi-Fi, though this data is not confirmed. Bringing your own snacks and entertainment may be wise if you anticipate a wait.
For wheelchair users or those with mobility issues, the accessible features should make your experience smoother. However, it is advisable to notify your airline in advance to ensure assistance is available from the check-in counter to the gate.
Aktau Airport is a functional gateway to western Kazakhstan, offering essential amenities and a focused service for travellers. While not a 24-hour facility, it provides the necessary infrastructure for a comfortable transit. Always double-check the latest information via the official website or phone number before your journey.
