Incompetent staff and shameful bar!!! At the security check the lady told to me: "you have a knife on your backpack...but i don't know in which one" (the first was mine and the second of my wife). I started to laugh in front to her for hers incompetence. She ask to her colleague to check the second. Obviously hi haven't found anything suspicious, and no knives! After that he ask to me to check my backpack, but obviously he haven't found anything suspicious, and obviously no knives!!! The suspicious items was a mackerel tin!!! I understand they have to check for our security, but if they are unable to recognise a knife from a fish tin I think this is not their job! At the bar we bought a half litre bottle of water. We paid that 2.60 EU!!!! The lady before me bought 2 half litre bottle of water, 2 sandwiches, a pot of melon. She paid 24EU!!!! Shame on you!!!
The airport has improved a lot in recent years: new management, new flights, and better connections. Its location in central Italy is super strategic, linking major cities across the region. That said, it's unclear whether the airport is evolving into something bigger or just stuck in limbo (classic Italian bureaucracy vibes). Regarding the train and taxi connection, the lack of info throws you straight back to the '90s. You'd think a quick Google search or an app could save the day, but nope. Definitely plan ahead if you want to avoid surprises. Overall, it's a solid airport with great potential. Let's see where it goes from here!
Usually a pretty efficient airport. Check-in to gate in 3 min. Landing to exit/parking in 10 min. Minimal food&beverage outlets. Expensive parking direct at airport. Highway exit is only 2-3 km away. There is also a train station just at the airport (Castelferretti-Falconara Aeroporto) But not really well connected with a train every hour or so to Ancona. Airport Taxis are a ripoff.
Bunch of silly people that work there especially security control they know some people don't speak English and they will still speak Italian like make it make sense. And this all happened Thursday 7th August for the ryanair flight from Ancona to Stansted airport for the 16:30 flight And no aircon
Ancona Airport, officially named Aeroporto Raffaello Sanzio, serves as the main air gateway for the Marche region of central Italy. Located in the coastal town of Falconara Marittima, just north of Ancona, this international airport handles a mix of scheduled flights, charter services, and seasonal connections to major European destinations. The airport primarily caters to tourists heading for the Adriatic beaches, the Conero Riviera, and cultural sites in the Marche hinterland, as well as business travellers attending trade fairs in Ancona and nearby cities. With a single terminal, the airport is compact and easy to navigate, making it a convenient entry point for those exploring the central Italian coast.
The airport is situated at an elevation of about 10 metres above sea level, directly along the Adriatic coastline. It lies approximately 12 kilometres west of Ancona’s city centre and about 18 kilometres from the Port of Ancona, a major ferry hub for connections to Greece, Croatia, and other Adriatic destinations. The address is Via dell'Aeroporto, 60021 Falconara Marittima (AN), Italy.
The airport is easily reachable via the A14 motorway, exiting at “Ancona Nord” or “Falconara” marittima. From the exit, follow signs to the airport. Paid parking lots are available both directly in front of the terminal and in a longer-stay area a short walk away. The airport also offers a wheelchair-accessible car park for passengers with reduced mobility. Street parking is available in the surrounding area, though it is also paid and limited.
Several local bus services connect the airport to Ancona city centre, Ancona railway station, and nearby towns. The Conerobus line (formerly ATM) provides regular services between the airport and Ancona’s central bus station, with journey times of around 20–30 minutes. Timetables are generally coordinated with flight arrivals and departures, but passengers should check current schedules as services may be less frequent outside peak hours.
Falconara Marittima-Statale railway station is about 1.5 kilometres from the airport terminal. Regional trains run along the Adriatic line between Ancona, Pesaro, and Fano. From the station, a short taxi ride or a walk of about 20 minutes brings you to the terminal. Taxis are readily available at the station.
Taxis operate from a rank outside the arrivals area. Fixed fares apply to Ancona city centre, Falconara, and other common destinations. It is advisable to confirm the price before starting the journey.
Despite its modest size, the airport provides a range of essential services to ensure a comfortable travel experience.
Peak passenger traffic typically occurs in the late afternoon, around 4 pm to 5 pm, when several departing flights are scheduled. During these times, security queues can be longer, so arriving at least two hours before departure is recommended.
The Marche region is one of Italy’s hidden treasures, known for its rolling hills, historic hilltop towns, and a pristine stretch of the Adriatic coastline. Ancona itself is a bustling port city with a rich history dating back to Greek and Roman times. The city’s main attractions include the Arch of Trajan, the Cathedral of San Ciriaco, and the lively seafront promenade.
Venture beyond Ancona, and you’ll find the Conero Riviera, a protected coastal area of dramatic cliffs and secluded beaches such as Due Sorelle and Portonovo. Inland, towns like Recanati (birthplace of poet Giacomo Leopardi), Loreto (home to the Basilica della Santa Casa), and Urbino (a UNESCO World Heritage site) offer cultural and artistic treasures. The region is also famous for its cuisine, including verdicchio white wine, olive oil from the Marche hills, and fresh seafood caught daily off the Adriatic coast.
Travellers fly into Ancona Airport primarily for beach holidays, cultural tours, pilgrimages to Loreto, or business related to the region’s manufacturing and shipbuilding industries. The airport’s seasonal flights also connect to holiday spots in the UK, Germany, and other European countries, making it a popular choice for sun-seekers.
Travellers are advised to verify flight times and check-in deadlines with their carrier. For real-time updates on parking and services, the airport’s official website provides the most accurate information. While the airport is modest in scale, its efficient layout and essential facilities ensure a straightforward start or end to your journey in the Marche region.
