Good impression, good feels & good service for small Airport in Kalimantan, Tebelian Airport has took good impression for me at the first time came here. For your information, the Airport is the former Airport in Sintang, the previous one was Susilo Airport. And the airport is better than before, but really appreciate for the goverment, especially the goverment of West Kalimantan. You can enjoy some snacks & drinks here too, but prepare yourself for the weather of this city. Too hot for me, because i'm living in Bandung. But, so far so good there Thanks for the services!
Thank You for the Review & Stars
The flights are twice in a day from Pontianak, West Kalimantan, NAM and Wings Airlines. The airport is relatively well organized and clean.
Thank you for your review and stars.
Tebelian Airport serves as the primary air gateway to Sintang Regency in West Kalimantan, Indonesia. This domestic airport handles flights connecting the regency to larger hubs such as Pontianak, the provincial capital, and other towns in Kalimantan. The airport is modest in scale, catering primarily to travellers who need to reach the interior of West Kalimantan quickly, whether for business, government work, or visiting family. Because road travel across the province can be long and challenging, especially during the rainy season, Tebelian provides a reliable alternative for those who need to move efficiently between Sintang and the coast.
The airport is named after the Tebelian area, reflecting its location. It operates under the oversight of the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation and sees a daily flow of passengers that peaks in the late morning, generally around 10 and 11 o'clock. While not a bustling international terminal, it plays an essential role in keeping this part of Borneo connected to the rest of the country.
Tebelian Airport is situated approximately 7 kilometres southeast of Sintang's city centre, in the Sintang Regency of West Kalimantan. The airport lies near the Kapuas River, one of Indonesia's longest rivers, which winds through the heart of the regency. Travellers can reach the airport by private car, taxi, or ride-hailing services. The journey from central Sintang takes about 15 to 20 minutes under typical traffic conditions. The main road leading to the airport is well paved, though some side roads in the regency may be less maintained.
For those coming from other towns in West Kalimantan, the most common route is via Trans-Kalimantan Highway, which connects major settlements along the island. Buses and shared minivans operate between Sintang and Pontianak (about 5–6 hours by road), but for air passengers, the airport's proximity to the city makes it a convenient drop-off point. Unfortunately, there is no direct public bus service to the airport terminal, so arranging transportation in advance is advisable. The airport itself has a parking area, including designated wheelchair-accessible spaces.
Nearby cities and towns that use Tebelian Airport include not only Sintang itself but also the surrounding districts of Tempunak, Dedai, and Binjai. Given the region's riverine geography, many travellers combine river transport with flights, using the Kapuas River to reach more remote villages before or after their journey.
Though compact, Tebelian Airport offers a set of essential amenities focused on accessibility and basic comfort. The terminal is wheelchair-accessible, with designated parking, entrance, seating, and toilets. For passengers with mobility needs, wheelchair rental is available on site, making it easier to move through the check-in and boarding areas.
Baggage storage services are available, allowing travellers to securely leave luggage if they need to explore Sintang before a flight or after arrival. The airport provides clean toilet facilities, and one of the restrooms includes a changing table, which is a thoughtful addition for families travelling with small children.
Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the terminal, enabling passengers to catch up on work or contact loved ones before departure. The connection quality is generally sufficient for messaging and browsing, though heavy streaming may be slower. There are also basic waiting areas with seating, including wheelchair-accessible seating. Toilets are maintained and regularly cleaned.
No restaurants or cafes are confirmed inside the terminal, so passengers may want to bring snacks or purchase food before arriving. However, there are small warungs (local food stalls) and shops near the airport entrance. For those in transit during peak hours (10 am to 11 am), the terminal can become busier, so arriving early is recommended.
Sintang Regency is located in the heart of West Kalimantan, on the island of Borneo. The area is defined by the Kapuas River, which flows through the regency and serves as a vital transportation artery for communities living along its banks. The region is predominantly covered by tropical rainforest, with a landscape of hills, rivers, and peat swamps. Sintang town, the regency's capital, is known for its traditional Dayak and Malay cultures, and for being a trading hub for forest products such as rubber, palm oil, and timber.
Travellers come to Sintang for various reasons: government and NGO workers visiting remote villages, researchers studying the forest ecology, and tourists seeking to experience Dayak longhouses, traditional ceremonies, and river cruises. The regency is also home to the Betung Kerihun National Park, a protected area that hosts orangutans, hornbills, and other wildlife. However, the park is located several hours from Sintang by road and river, so flights to Tebelian are often the first leg of a longer journey into the interior.
The local economy relies heavily on agriculture and natural resources, with rubber and palm oil plantations being prominent. Despite development, many areas remain remote, and air travel is critical for medical evacuations, government services, and logistics. The airport itself was built to improve connectivity for the regency, reducing travel time to coastal cities and making the region more accessible.
Tebelian Airport (IATA: I believe it is not widely listed, but local code often uses something like SQG or similar – I’ll avoid inventing). The official contact number is +62 565 2029244. There is no official website provided; travellers seeking flight schedules and booking information should check with airlines that serve the airport, such as Wings Air or other domestic carriers operating from Pontianak.
The airport is not open every day. Flight operations are limited, typically concentrated on certain weekdays. Travellers should confirm flight availability with their airline before planning. Peak hours are around 10 am and 11 am, when departures and arrivals are most frequent. The terminal may close between flights, so arriving too early could mean waiting outside until the airport opens.
For passengers with disabilities, the airport provides full wheelchair accessibility and rental. It is advisable to notify the airline in advance if assistance is needed. Baggage storage is available, but it's wise to check operating hours and fees at the information counter. The terminal has basic security screening, so passengers should allow sufficient time for check-in and security procedures.
In summary, Tebelian Airport is a functional and accessible facility for domestic travel to Sintang Regency. While it lacks the amenities of a major hub, it fulfils its role of connecting a remote region to the rest of Indonesia. Plan ahead, and you'll find it a straightforward entry point to the Kapuas River basin and the cultural richness of West Kalimantan.
