Hubli Airport is a small but well-maintained domestic airport serving the city of Hubballi and the surrounding region. It's compact, which means check-in and security are usually quick and hassle-free compared to larger airports. The terminal is clean and organized, with basic amenities like a well maintained wash rooms and drinking water facility, a small waiting area, a food stalls (but no Jain snacks) and a 2/3 of shops. There aren't a lot of flight options, the primary airline operating from Hubli Airport is IndiGo. but it's a very convenient hub for regional travel. Staff are courteous and efficient, Indigo staff there was quick to pick check in bag from customer right at entry gate for scanning and guiding on procedure. Overall, it's a functional and pleasant airport for short domestic trips -- simple, straightforward, and efficient, Nothing fancy, but it's smooth and stress-free -- and that's all expected on small regional domestic airport. Not to miss is a unique Sitting Mahatma Gadhiji statue in this Airport with the photographs with many other freedom fighters.

Small but very well maintained domestic airport with the code HBX. This is one of the major and closest airports to reach Hampi, Mundgod Tibetan camp, Pattadakal, Badami. Only Indigo airlines operate from/to Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Pune & Hyderabad. Bus pick and drop is available even though distance is very less. There is one baggage belt on arrivals. Process was smooth. On departures, there is one snack shop where food is okayish and a handloom shop. Indigo gave 7kg baggage allowance to my grandmother. Thanks to them. Generous and kind staff. Checked in bags were also thoroughly checked which I really liked. It is self reliant in terms of electricity generation using solar. P.S - Some construction to expand terminals is ongoing. Hubballi Airport (also known as Hubli Airport) is a domestic airport serving the twin cities of Hubballi and Dharwad in the state of Karnataka, India. As a key aviation hub for North Karnataka, it primarily handles scheduled flights to major Indian cities such as Bengaluru, Mumbai, Chennai, and Hyderabad. The airport is operated by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and plays a vital role in connecting the region’s commercial, industrial, and agricultural sectors with the rest of the country. Business travellers visiting the bustling textile and cotton markets, professionals attending conferences in Dharwad’s educational institutions, and tourists heading to historical and natural attractions in the area all use this airport. Despite its modest size, Hubballi Airport provides essential services and is steadily growing in passenger traffic, reflecting the region’s economic development.
Hubballi Airport is situated approximately 8 kilometres (5 miles) southeast of Hubballi city centre, near the village of Gokul. The airport’s location offers convenient access to both Hubballi and Dharwad, which lie about 20 kilometres apart. Travellers can reach the airport by taxi, auto-rickshaw, or private car. Prepaid taxi counters are available at the terminal, and ride-sharing services like Ola and Uber operate in the area. For those driving, the airport is well connected by road: National Highway 48 (NH 48) passes close by, linking the airport to the cities of Belagavi (about 100 km northwest) and Davangere (about 150 km southeast). The nearest major railway station is Hubballi Junction, approximately 10 km away, with regular train services from Bengaluru, Mumbai, and other cities. Public buses are also available from the city bus stand, though frequency may be limited. The airport itself has a modest terminal building with a single runway, designed to handle narrow-body aircraft like the Airbus A320 and Boeing 737.
The airport provides a range of facilities to ensure passenger comfort and accessibility. For travellers with reduced mobility, the airport features a wheelchair-accessible car park, entrance, and toilets. Wheelchair assistance is available upon request, and staff are trained to help passengers with special needs. Baggage storage services allow passengers to store luggage securely if they have a layover or wish to explore the city briefly. The terminal has clean toilets, including a baby changing table, making it family-friendly. Other on-site services include a snack bar, a few retail shops, and waiting lounges. Free Wi-Fi is typically offered, though connection speeds may vary. The airport does not have a premium lounge, but the seating areas are comfortable. Note that the airport is not open 24 hours; its operating hours align with flight schedules. Peak travel times are around 4 pm and 8 pm, so passengers should plan accordingly and arrive early for security checks.
Hubballi and Dharwad together form the second-largest urban agglomeration in Karnataka after Bengaluru. Hubballi is a major commercial and industrial centre, historically known as the "Cotton City" due to its thriving cotton market—one of the largest in India. The region is also famous for its textile mills, engineering industries, and the Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation area. Dharwad, on the other hand, is an educational and cultural hub, home to prestigious institutions like the University of Agricultural Sciences, Karnataka University, and many colleges. The twin cities offer a blend of urban life and natural beauty. Notable attractions include Unkal Lake with its iconic musical fountain, the 11th-century Chandramauleshwara Temple, the Indira Gandhi Glass House Garden, and the historical Nrupatunga Betta hill. The region is also a gateway to the Western Ghats, with scenic spots like the Jog Falls (about 130 km away) and the wildlife sanctuaries of Dandeli and Anshi. Travellers often visit for business, education, or pilgrimage, as well as for exploring the rich cultural heritage of North Karnataka.
Always confirm flight details with your airline and allow extra time during peak hours. For real-time updates, the AAI website or airport information desk can assist.
