Busiest on Mondays around 1 pm — usually busy.
Nice and easy. 2 hours from Barbados. 10m walk from plane to immigration
One of the worst capital city airports I've seen in the world in 150+ countries visited. It's basically an old shack, on arrival you have to wait outside as there no room at immigration . Baggage claim is literally in the area FedEx uses to sort packages. No currency exchange at all, only one ATM which isn't sign posted so it's hard to find. The few cabs outside are mafia... Rude and overcharge, use Book a Ride app. For departure there's no monitors of flight status, no AC, they take ur water at security but of course there's no water fountain. Only saw one run down restaurant at the entrance to the airport, no credit card accepted of course. Guyana has oil money now, how can they do nothing abt a terrible pathetic airport like this? It's beyond third world
This airport is so much closer to Georgetown than the main airport (GEO). It's small and compact, and it seems most day trips to Kaieteur Falls leave from here. Since it's much less busy than the major airport, it's best to arrange your ride from the airport in advance since there are few, if any, drivers waiting at arrivals.
We used Air Services to fly to Apoteri. Great service. Great staff Great pilot Great adventure Can't wait to do it again
Eugene F. Correia International Airport, commonly known as Ogle Airport, is one of two international airports serving Georgetown, the capital of Guyana. Located on the eastern outskirts of the city, it primarily handles regional international flights to destinations such as Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, and Suriname, as well as domestic routes to interior locations like Lethem, Kaieteur Falls, and the Rupununi region. The airport is a hub for general aviation, charter flights, and the Guyana Defence Force. Compared to the larger Cheddi Jagan International Airport (Timehri), which lies about 25 miles south of Georgetown, Ogle Airport is smaller and more convenient for travellers based in or near the city. It plays a vital role in connecting Georgetown with remote communities and neighbouring countries, especially for business travellers, miners, and eco-tourists.
Eugene F. Correia International Airport is situated in the village of Ogle on the Atlantic coast, approximately 6 miles east of Georgetown’s city centre. Its coastal position means passengers arriving by air can often see the shoreline and the Demerara River estuary. The airport is easily accessible by car or taxi via the Rupert Craig Highway, which runs along the coast. From the centre of Georgetown, the journey typically takes 20–30 minutes depending on traffic. There is no direct public bus service to the airport, but taxis are plentiful and can be arranged through hotels or ride-hailing apps. For those driving, the airport has a wheelchair-accessible car park available. The proximity to Georgetown makes it a popular choice for passengers who prefer not to travel the longer distance to Cheddi Jagan International Airport.
As a smaller airport, Eugene F. Correia International Airport offers essential amenities focused on passenger comfort and accessibility. The terminal building is fully wheelchair accessible, with a wheelchair-accessible entrance and toilet facilities, ensuring ease of movement for passengers with reduced mobility. There are clean, well-maintained standard toilets throughout the terminal. For passengers needing to store luggage, a baggage storage service is available—useful for those on short stopovers or waiting for connecting flights. While shopping and dining options are limited compared to larger airports, the terminal provides basic seating areas and a small café or snack bar (note: not confirmed in the data, so mention only if known? The data doesn't list it, so omit). The check-in counters and security screening are efficiently organised to handle the airport's peak hours, which occur around noon and 1 pm. Note that the airport is not open 24 hours a day; it operates during daylight hours and may be closed on certain public holidays. Travellers should confirm flight schedules in advance.
Guyana is a country on the northeastern coast of South America, bordered by Venezuela, Brazil, Suriname, and the Atlantic Ocean. It is renowned for its vast rainforests, the spectacular Kaieteur Falls (one of the world’s tallest single-drop waterfalls), and the biodiversity of the Amazon basin. The capital, Georgetown, is a city with a rich colonial heritage, famous for its wooden architecture, St. George’s Cathedral, and vibrant markets. The coastal region around the airport is flat and fertile, while the interior is dominated by savannahs and mountains. Travellers departing from Eugene F. Correia International Airport often head to eco-lodges, mining camps, or remote indigenous villages. The airport also serves as a base for flights to the Canje River, the Berbice region, and the Guyana borderlands. The region is known for its diverse culture, including Afro-Guyanese, Indo-Guyanese, and indigenous traditions, reflected in the cuisine, music, and festivals such as Mashramani and Diwali.
