Busiest on Mondays around 10 am — usually as busy as it gets.
Great way to get to Kastellorizo instead of the 3-5 hour ferry from Rhodes. Exciting approach and short runway. Olympic has retained its Dash 8-100 aircraft just to be able to fly into this airport and pilots needs to be specially qualified. Terminal is small as you would expect. A mini bus takes you to town for EUR5 per person but it only takes about 8 people per trip so may take a few trips to take the entire plane to town.
One of the world's best airports - it surpasses Doha, Dubai and Singapore for sure. There's even a private lounge available for all passengers. Highly recommended.
This gets 5 stars because its kike stepping back in time.
Beautiful lovely pretty airport
Kastellorizo Municipal Airport (IATA: KZS, ICAO: LGKJ) is a small airport located on the island of Kastellorizo (also known as Megisti) in the Dodecanese archipelago of Greece. Situated just a few kilometres from the Turkish coast, the airport serves as the main gateway for visitors and residents to this remote island. The airport primarily handles domestic flights from Athens and Rhodes, operated by small aircraft such as the ATR 42 or Dash 8. Due to its short runway and limited infrastructure, it is classified as a municipal airport rather than an international hub. The terminal is compact, reflecting the island's low population and seasonal tourism. Travelers should expect a relaxed, low-key atmosphere with minimal queues.
Despite its small size, Kastellorizo Airport provides essential facilities for passengers. The terminal includes a wheelchair-accessible car park located close to the entrance, and a wheelchair-accessible entrance ensuring ease of access for passengers with reduced mobility. Inside, there is a toilet available for public use. The airport does not have shops, restaurants, or lounges; passengers are advised to bring any necessary food or drink, as options are limited to what is available on the island itself. The check-in area is basic, and there are no dedicated baggage storage services. The airport is designed for quick processing, so travellers should allow only minimal time before their flight.
Kastellorizo Airport is not open every day. Its operating schedule varies depending on flight arrivals and departures, which are seasonal and often limited. The airport tends to be busiest around 10 am and 11 am, coinciding with scheduled flights. Outside of these peak hours, the airport may be closed or unattended. Travelers should confirm their flight times with their airline and plan to arrive at the airport approximately 30–45 minutes before departure, as there are no extended opening hours. During the off-season (late autumn through early spring), flights may be less frequent or even suspended, so checking the schedule in advance is essential.

The airport is located on the eastern side of Kastellorizo, approximately 2 km from the main town (also called Kastellorizo or Megisti). The most common way to reach the terminal is by taxi or private vehicle; there is no public bus service. Walking is possible but may take around 25–30 minutes along a road with limited pedestrian infrastructure. Taxis are usually available to meet flights, but during quiet periods it is wise to pre-arrange transport through your accommodation. The island is small, so distances are short. The airport's single runway (runway 05/23) is primarily used by propeller aircraft; larger jets cannot land due to length restrictions.
Kastellorizo is one of Greece's most isolated inhabited islands, with a permanent population of fewer than 500 people. The airport plays a vital role in connecting the island to the mainland and other parts of Greece, especially during the summer tourism season. It is also used for medical evacuations and emergency services. Due to its location near the Turkish coast, the airport occasionally handles international charter flights, but these are rare. The airport was originally built as a military airstrip and later converted for civilian use. Despite its rustic facilities, it remains a picturesque and efficient gateway for those seeking the tranquil beauty of Kastellorizo.
Castellorizo Airport offers a simple, no-frills experience that matches the unhurried pace of island life. While it lacks the amenities of larger airports, its efficiency and charm make it a fitting introduction to Kastellorizo.
