A small airport, friendly staff, straightforward check in but the security line can be a bit long as the small number of staff process the influx of passengers that normally arrive at similar times. A few small shops inside the terminal.
I want to express my sincere gratitude to the staff at Tarbes-Lourdes-Pyrenees Airport for their quick and compassionate assistance during a very stressful situation. I had three missed calls from my mom, and when I called her back after the third one, she told me she was stuck inside a bathroom at the airport. I immediately called the airport, and the person who answered was incredibly kind and calm. They quickly located my mom and made sure she was safe. Because of how stressful the moment was, I didn't get the chance to properly thank the person on the phone, but I truly appreciate their professionalism, empathy, and fast response. I hope this message reaches their supervisor so they can be recognized for their outstanding service. Their quick action and kindness turned a very worrying moment into one of relief. Thank you again for the wonderful assistance.
2nd time I arrived here as it's 2nd visit to Lourdes . There was no electricity at the arrival hall but luckily the baggage belt was working and we got our suitcases . Last yr I took the airport shuttle to Lourdes . At the shuttle bus stop a couple was waiting then another appeared . After waiting for about 20min the 2 couples decided to leave by taxi . I was getting a bit worried and started to google the timetable . But Almost immediately after their taxi were out of sight I saw the shuttle appeared ! still value for money at EU3 pp for ride to Lourdes train station in 30min . Last yr I was dropped along the river opposite Mercure hotel . It was only a short 20min walk and was happy to on a lovely afternoon in Autumn !
Very nice place for an airport. Peaceful too. A wonderful restaurant only 17.9 Euros for lunch. Cafe and bar great too with English speaking staff. Parking is a little full but hey ho. One of the most chilled airports I've seen.
Hello Mr. Michael, thank you for taking the time to leave us a comment!
Tarbes-Lourdes-Pyrenees Airport (TLP) is a regional airport in southwestern France, serving the historic town of Tarbes and the world-famous pilgrimage site of Lourdes. Nestled at the foot of the Pyrenees mountains, this compact airport primarily handles seasonal flights from across Europe, bringing pilgrims, hikers, skiers, and tourists eager to explore the region. The airport is also used for general aviation and occasional charter traffic. With its efficient layout and friendly staff, TLP offers a straightforward travel experience, free from the crowds of larger hubs.
The airport is located in the commune of Juillan, about 10 kilometres southwest of Tarbes and 15 kilometres northeast of Lourdes. It sits in the fertile plains of the Adour River valley, with the Pyrenees forming a dramatic backdrop to the south. By car, the airport is easily reached via the A64 motorway (exit 12) or the N21 national road, which connects Tarbes and Lourdes. Free parking is available on-site, with both short-term and long-term options. For those without a car, taxis and ride-sharing services operate from the terminal. During peak times, shuttle buses may run between Lourdes and the airport, synchronised with flight arrivals. The nearest major cities are Pau (about 50 km west) and Toulouse (about 160 km northeast), both of which have larger airports with broader connections.
Despite its small size, Tarbes-Lourdes-Pyrenees Airport provides essential amenities to ensure a comfortable journey. The terminal is fully wheelchair-accessible, with dedicated parking spaces, an accessible entrance, wheelchair-accessible seating areas, and accessible toilets. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the building, allowing travellers to stay connected. A baby-changing table is provided in the restroom facilities, and there are standard toilets for all passengers. The airport offers free parking lots, which is a rare perk for travellers. While there are no major restaurants or shops, a small café or snack bar may operate seasonally. Peak hours at the airport are typically around 3 pm and 4 pm, when multiple flights are scheduled to depart. It is advisable to arrive early during these times to navigate any queues.
The airport’s catchment area is defined by two distinct attractions: the spiritual draw of Lourdes and the natural beauty of the Pyrenees. Lourdes is one of the most visited Christian pilgrimage sites in the world, attracting millions of visitors annually to the Grotto of Massabielle, where Saint Bernadette reportedly saw visions of the Virgin Mary. The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes is a sprawling complex of churches, baths, and processions. Tarbes, the prefecture of the Hautes-Pyrénées department, is a quieter city with a rich history, home to the Jardin Massey and the Musée Massey, which houses a collection of art and local history. The surrounding region is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts. The Pyrenees National Park offers hiking trails, mountain lakes, and wildlife such as marmots and eagles. In winter, ski resorts like Barèges and La Mongie are within an hour’s drive. The area is also known for its gastronomy, including Gascon cuisine, foie gras, and the renowned Madiran red wine.
The airport is not open every day of the week; it operates on a seasonal schedule, with most flights concentrated in the summer months (April to October) and during the winter ski season. Check the official website for current opening hours and flight timetables. The peak hours—when the terminal is busiest—are typically around 3 pm and 4 pm. For enquiries, contact the airport directly by phone at +33 5 62 32 92 22 or visit the website at http://www.tlp.aeroport.fr/. The terminal provides essential services and a calm atmosphere, ideal for those seeking a stress-free start to their journey.
