Somehow I did book my return flight from Paris Vatry Airport, Named after Paris , really,? What ?? It's in the middle of nowhere too far from any other city , How can I get there ? A baby Airport. No public transportation, taxis charge double price , I didn't had breakfast in the hotel as I want to set at duty free , guess what I found , a closed shop named duty free ( look at the pictures) So I stayed without breakfast. A poor airport in the middle of nowhere, do yourself a favor and don't fly to / out from here . Enjoy traveling though.
It was my big mistake to come this airport. You shouldn't purchase any flight ticket which has a direction of this airport. If you decide to come to this airport, you will regret for sure. It's almost 160 km away from city center of Paris. There is no public transportation for this airport. The closest bus station which is called Vatry Rue Principale is 6 km away from airport. You have to walk from forest. Shortly, in my opinion, if you don't want to regret, don't choose this airport.
DO NOT BOOK A FLIGHT TO THIS AIRPORT!! no public transport, nothing... i spend 70-80euros to get to this airport (train till champagne station (35-40EU) and after a taxi)
Baddest experience. This airport is without any transportation. No train no bus no uber no bolt even you can't find any taxi at airport.Never come if you don't have your own transportation.
Paris-Vatry Airport (code XCR), officially known as Aéroport de Paris-Vatry, is a small international airport located in the commune of Bussy-Lettrée in the Grand Est region of France. Despite its "Paris" name, the airport is about 150 kilometers east of central Paris, serving primarily as an alternative for low-cost airlines and charter carriers. The airport handles seasonal flights to Mediterranean destinations, the Canary Islands, North Africa, and occasionally Eastern Europe. It is also used for cargo operations, including freight for major courier companies. Passenger traffic is light compared to the major Paris airports, making it a relaxed option for those heading to the Champagne region or seeking to avoid the crowds at Charles de Gaulle or Orly.
Paris-Vatry Airport is situated in the Marne department, roughly halfway between Reims (50 km northwest) and Troyes (70 km south). The airport’s precise location is on the former Vatry Air Base, a NATO military facility converted to civilian use. Access by car is straightforward via the A26 autoroute (exit 22) and the D996 departmental road. The airport offers free street parking as well as paid on-site parking lots. For those arriving by train, the nearest major TGV station is Champagne-Ardenne TGV in Bezannes, near Reims, which connects to Paris Gare de l’Est in about 45 minutes. From there, a taxi or rental car is required to cover the remaining 50 km. Bus services are limited; some charter airlines may offer coach transfers from Reims or Paris during peak seasons. Ride-sharing and taxis are available at the terminal.
Despite its modest size, Paris-Vatry Airport provides essential amenities for passengers. The terminal is fully wheelchair-accessible, with designated parking spaces, entrance, and toilets. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the building, allowing travelers to stay connected. There are clean restrooms with baby-changing tables available. Parking options include free street parking (subject to availability) and paid long-term and short-term lots adjacent to the terminal. The airport has a small café offering snacks and beverages, and a duty-free shop for last-minute souvenirs. Car rental desks are present, with major agencies represented. Note that the airport is not open 24/7; it operates during flight times, with peak hours typically around 11 am and 12 pm when most departures are scheduled. Passengers should plan to arrive two hours before departure for check-in and security.
The Champagne-Ardenne region is world-renowned for its sparkling wine production. The rolling hills around Reims and Épernay are home to prestigious champagne houses like Moët & Chandon, Veuve Clicquot, and Taittinger, many offering cellar tours and tastings. Reims itself boasts the magnificent Notre-Dame de Reims Cathedral, where French kings were once crowned. The region also features the UNESCO-listed Fortifications of Vauban and the historic city of Troyes with its half-timbered houses and vibrant market. Outdoor enthusiasts can explore the Montagne de Reims Regional Nature Park or the Lac du Der-Chantecoq, one of Europe’s largest artificial lakes, ideal for water sports and birdwatching. The proximity to the A26 makes it easy to travel further into the Ardennes forests or the Alps.
