Brand new terminal so there are not many shops yet. But very clean and family friendly! There is a nursery room at every single toilet equipped with feeding chair, nappy change area, bottle warmer and steriliser. Also hot and cold water available at every toilet. There's also little trolleys with child seats which is so handy for little ones that don't want to walk! Wish all airports had these!
My recent transit through Xi'an Xianyang International Airport Terminal 5 offered a clear picture of its current state. While modern in appearance, I found it somewhat lacking in certain amenities crucial for a comfortable layover or pre-flight experience. One of the most noticeable aspects was the limited selection of dining options. There were not really a lot of restaurants, with choices leaning heavily towards local Chinese fast food or basic eateries. If you are hoping for a diverse culinary experience or familiar international chains, you might find yourself with restricted choices. Similarly, there were not many places for coffee. Finding a dedicated coffee shop, beyond basic self-service options, proved challenging. This can be a bit frustrating if you rely on that morning caffeine boost or a place to sit and relax with a hot drink. I also had the opportunity to use one of the lounges, and found that the lounges are pretty basic in amenities. While they offer a quiet space away from the main terminal, do not expect extensive food spreads, premium beverages, or luxurious comfort. They serve their purpose for a brief respite, but they do not provide the elevated experience you might find in some other international airport lounges. Overall, Xi'an Xianyang International Airport Terminal 5 functions as a large, modern hub, but travelers should manage their expectations regarding food and beverage variety, particularly for coffee. If you plan to spend significant time there, consider bringing your own snacks or making arrangements for your dining needs.
I was there twice. It was a crowded airport and quite small compared with other airports in China. At first my flight gate was on the upper floor which was quite bright and clean then they changed the gate to the downstairs area where I had to take the bus to go to the airplane. That area was quite dark and messy. The toilet area was full, I waited in a very long line until I could use it.
The terminal is completely empty--no place to eat, nowhere to buy coffee, and no designated smoking areas. There's only one duty-free shop, and it has almost nothing. On top of that, there's only one lounge, which doesn't accept any foreign bank cards. The waiting area chairs are plastic and not even enough for a quarter of the passengers to sit. Don't even dream of finding a massage chair--they've only focused on filling the place with restrooms. This is a completely failed international airport in every sense of the word. I will never use this airport again, even if the ticket is free.
