Nice beautiful airport here at Belo Horizonte, Brasil. All the modern conveniences from duty free shops to modern eateries even McDonalds and Burger king. Nice and air conditioned. The have a pay lounge in this terminal costly but if you have a 7 hr layover it's ok.
Small Domestic airport for intercity connectivity. Took a flight from Sao Paulo to Belo Horizonte to attend an Education conference. Neat and clean airport and helpful staff. Clearly marked Route map helps in easy navigation within the airport. Language is a big barrier as no one understands English. The airport is not as crowded as Sao Paulo so its nice and quiet. Overall a decent experience. Well connected by Public transport to city centre and other places.
Decent airport. Easy to navigate around.
Easy almost central location, but few operations nowadays. Just small planes and jets, or some regional flights 2 or 3 times a day.
Belo Horizonte/Pampulha – Carlos Drummond de Andrade Airport (IATA: PLU) is one of two commercial airports serving Belo Horizonte, the capital of Minas Gerais state in southeastern Brazil. Named after the beloved Brazilian poet, the airport sits in the Pampulha neighborhood, a short distance from the city center. While the larger Tancredo Neves International Airport (Confins) handles most international and long-haul domestic flights, Pampulha focuses on short-haul routes within Brazil, making it a convenient gateway for regional travelers, business passengers, and those visiting the Pampulha area itself.
The airport's location near the artificial Pampulha Lagoon places it in a district renowned for its modernist architecture, including the iconic São Francisco de Assis Church designed by Oscar Niemeyer. Pampulha is also a popular leisure area with parks, a zoo, and the Mineirão Stadium. As a result, the airport sees a mix of tourists arriving for cultural trips and locals flying to São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and other nearby cities.
Pampulha Airport is situated approximately 10 kilometers north of Belo Horizonte's downtown area, offering a much shorter journey to the city center than Confins Airport, which lies about 40 kilometers away. The airport's address is Praça Bagatelle, 204 – Pampulha, making it easily reachable by car, taxi, or ride-hailing services. For those driving, there is a wheelchair-accessible car park available.
Public transportation options include several bus lines that connect the airport to central Belo Horizonte and surrounding neighborhoods. Passengers should check local transit schedules for the most direct routes. The airport is also close to major roads such as Avenida Antônio Carlos, providing quick access to the city's commercial and tourist districts. Travelers heading to other towns in Minas Gerais can use Pampulha as a convenient starting point, especially since its smaller size means faster check-in and security processes.
Despite being a smaller airport, Pampulha offers essential amenities designed to accommodate passengers with diverse needs. All confirmed facilities are fully accessible: a wheelchair-accessible car park, entrance, and restrooms ensure that travelers with reduced mobility can navigate the terminal smoothly. The restrooms also include changing tables for families with infants.
Baggage storage is available on site, allowing passengers to explore the area hands-free during layovers or before a flight. The terminal is equipped with standard toilets, and the overall layout prioritizes ease of movement. While the airport does not feature extensive shopping or dining options, its compact size means wait times are generally short, and the essential services cover most passenger requirements.
Passengers should note that the airport's peak hours are around 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM, when flight activity is highest. Arriving early during these times is advisable to ensure a smooth experience.
Minas Gerais is a state of striking contrasts: it was the heart of Brazil's 18th-century gold rush, which left a legacy of baroque art and architecture in towns like Ouro Preto, Mariana, and Tiradentes. Today, the state is a major producer of coffee, dairy, and gemstones. Its capital, Belo Horizonte, is a planned city known for its vibrant food scene, fusion of traditional and modern culture, and status as a hub for business and events.
The Pampulha district itself is a UNESCO World Heritage site, celebrated for its modernist ensemble including the church, the Mineirão Stadium, and the Pampulha Art Museum. The artificial lake is a recreational center, popular for jogging, cycling, and boat rides. Travelers often use Pampulha Airport to attend conferences, explore historical towns, or visit natural attractions such as the Serra do Cipó National Park, about 100 kilometers away.
Local cuisine is a highlight: Minas Gerais is famous for its cheese, bread rolls (pão de queijo), and hearty stews. Visitors can sample these at nearby restaurants or markets within a short drive from the airport.
Pampulha Airport is not open 24 hours a day; it may not operate every day of the week. Passengers are strongly advised to verify current hours and flight schedules directly with the airport or their airline. The official website provides up-to-date information on timetables, arrivals, departures, and services.
Peak hours: approximately 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM. During these times, expect busier check-in counters and security lines. For queries regarding accessibility, baggage storage, or general assistance, the airport's phone line is the best point of contact.
When planning a trip, keep in mind that Pampulha is primarily a domestic airport serving regional flights. International travelers will arrive at Confins and may need to connect via a short transfer. However, for those whose journey begins or ends in central Belo Horizonte, Pampulha offers unparalleled convenience.
