People want the infrastructure of Guarulhos in a city that doesn't have the demand. I've used that airport and, relatively speaking, it's very good, generally quiet with low traffic, the staff are helpful and attentive. Those who complain that the airport is far from the city center can easily do so: charter a helicopter and land wherever you want.
February 29, 2024 - Updating information about Aracatuba Airport: The Aeroportos Paulista Consortium will take over operations at Dario Guarita Airport in Aracatuba by the beginning of March (2023) at the latest. This information was given by the Vice-Governor of Sao Paulo, Rodrigo Garcia (PSDB), during a visit to Sao Jose do Rio Preto last Friday (5). (Source: O Liberal Regional - Diogo Fernandes portal Lr1) "We hope they improve the conditions of the place because it really needs it." I found the access to the airport bad; it's quite far from the local road that connects the airport to the neighborhood and doesn't have a shoulder. On Sundays, the flow of people walking and cycling on this road without a bike path is large; if you're not careful, you could run someone over. The facilities, flight schedule options, and airlines are very limited; a significant investment is needed in this airport. Even ride-sharing drivers cancel rides to pick up passengers, especially if the payment is by card (THEY ARE NOT PROFESSIONAL). There's a small, enclosed parking lot that shares space with cars from a 24-hour rental company with a security guard; apparently, it can hold about 50/60 cars, which is terrible for an airport with 63 years of operation. If I didn't give it zero stars, I'd still be giving it a lot. The best thing to do is build a more modern airport or expand it!
State Airport de Aracatuba (IATA: ARU) serves as the primary air gateway for the northwestern region of São Paulo state, Brazil. Located in the city of Aracatuba, this regional airport handles domestic flights connecting passengers to major hubs like São Paulo–Congonhas and Viracopos. It caters primarily to business travellers visiting the area’s thriving agribusiness sector, as well as leisure passengers heading to the region’s natural attractions. The airport is modest in scale but provides essential services for a smooth travel experience.
Aracatuba Airport sits approximately 8 kilometres from the city centre, off Rodovia Marechal Rondon (SP-300). The drive takes about 15 minutes by car. The city of Aracatuba has a population of around 200,000 and is a commercial and industrial hub in the Alto Tietê region. Nearby towns include Birigui (30 km east) and Penápolis (40 km south). For passengers arriving from further afield, the airport is roughly 500 km northwest of São Paulo city, a journey of about 5.5 hours by road.

Despite its size, Aracatuba Airport offers a range of amenities to ensure passenger comfort:
The terminal is compact, making it easy to navigate. Check-in counters and baggage claim are on the ground floor. Security screening is efficient, with peak traffic typically occurring around 10 am and 12 pm. During these times, queues may form, so arriving at least 90 minutes before departure is advisable.
Aracatuba lies in the heart of the Paulista northwestern hinterland, a region shaped by the Tietê River and its tributaries. The area is known for its agricultural wealth, particularly cattle ranching, sugar cane, and citrus cultivation. The city itself is a centre for agribusiness, hosting major livestock fairs and events like the Exposição de Aracatuba. Visitors often come for business related to farming, food processing, or logistics.
For leisure travellers, the region offers several attractions. The Tietê River provides opportunities for fishing and boat trips. Nearby natural reserves, such as the Estação Ecológica do Ribeirão Preto, feature hiking trails and birdwatching. The city also has a lively cultural scene, with museums like the Museu Histórico e Pedagógico and annual festivals celebrating local traditions.
Given its inland location, Aracatuba experiences a tropical climate with hot summers (October to March) and mild winters. Rainfall is common in summer, so packing a light raincoat is wise. The airport serves as a convenient entry point to explore the wider region, including the larger cities of São José do Rio Preto (150 km north) and Marília (120 km south).
